DAVIDSON, NC — The start was great.
But the finish was not for the Division I host Davidson College wrestlers Tuesday night, as Division II Limestone won five matches in a row to send the Wildcats to 1-3 in duals on the season, taking a 22-15 win at Belk Arena.
Davidson jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the dual behind four consecutive wins between 157 and 184 pounds. Part of that win streak at the start was pushed along by Noah Satterfield (Marysville OH ’15, family living in Nease school district) at 174 pounds.
Satterfield stopped Limestone’s Jimmy Sandlin, 6-1, to extend the Davidson lead to 9-0. But while each team won five matches, the Saints were able to get bonus points in three of their wins, and those extra points made the difference in the victory.
Davidson is now off until Saturday, when the Wildcats host UT-Chattanooga.
Arizona State 25, South Dakota State 13: At Tempe on Sunday, the 12th-ranked hosts won the final five matches of the dual to overcome the 14th-ranked Jackrabbits, coached by Bolles alum Chris Bono.
SDSU led at the break, 13-7, behind tech falls at 197, the first match of the dual, from Nate Rotert and top-ranked Seth Gross at 133, plus a decision from Henry Pohlmeyer at 141.
But the Sun Devils, behind wins from four ranked wrestlers, surged ahead after the break, ripping off 18 points in the second half of the dual for the win.
SDSU is now off until the Dakota Showcase on Sunday.
