CLEVELAND, GA — Coker bagged eight wins in a 39-12 dual victory over host Truett-McConnell Wednesday night.
The Cobras, with coaching from assistant Robert Parland (University Christian ’13), had six bonus-point wins in the dual, losing just one contested match on the night.
Coker did trail at one point, 6-5, but strung three wins together behind a fall at 141 and major at 149. The Cobras also got falls at 184 and 285 to secure the victory.
The Cobras will go to conference rival King’s open IBT on Sunday; after that, they’re off until December 14 with a trip to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic duals tournament.
Crusaders roll: At Belmont NC, host Belmont Abbey (2-2 in duals) racked up three pins in a 34-11 win over Bluefield. One of those was from Brian Girard (Arnold ’16) at 197. Girard falled Bluefield’s Jacob Booth in 1:48, clinching the dual victory. The Crusaders are off until December 7, when they’ll dual conference rival UNC-Pembroke.
Remembering Kenny: In an emotional home dual, Wartburg — which commemorated the passing of former wrestler and Division III national champ Kenny Anderson in events Wednesday night — rolled to a 47-3 win over Simpson. During that dual, the Storm’s Josh Bower (Matanzas ’19) started at 133, losing by fall to fourth-ranked Kristian Rumph in 1:36. Simpson will go to Coe’s Turkey Invitational on Saturday.
