GAINESVILLE — Clay ran the table on Saturday in the Bobcat Holiday Duals tournament at Buchholz, in the first time the tournament was staged over just one day.

The tournament was separated into pools based on overall team strength. Clay was first in the stronger (per the tournament director) Black pool, going 4-0 with wins over Palatka (75-6), Manatee (46-30), Tenoroc (57-18) and the host Bobcats (50-21). In crossover competition, the Blue Devils hammered Leesburg, 69-6.


Clay (10-0 in duals for the season) had three wrestlers go 5-0 on the weekend, two of whom “max-pointed” (scored 6 points in each dual the team wrestled) through the day.

Cale Hoskinson (152, 3 pins) and Garrett Tyre (220, 2 pins) were 5-0 with max-point days, while Luke Boree (138, 3 pins & decision) also had a 5-0 tournament.

Tazz Hampton (106, 2 pins), Dominic Martin (145, 3 pins) and Derrek Mosley (285, 2 pins & 2 decisions) were all 4-0 for Clay, while Maverick Rainwater (113, pin) and Luke Davis (126, 2 pins & decision) were both 4-1.

Abdiert Escobar (132, 2 pins & major) was 3-1 for the Blue Devils, while Luca Fiannca (160/170, pin), Eli Montalvo (160/170, 2 pins) and Joe Grelli (195, pin & decision) each contributed 3-2 days.

Below follows a summary of the other area teams in the tournament:

Buchholz (3-2, 3rd in Black pool): The hosts started out strongly in pool, with wins over Tenoroc (54-23) and Palatka (54-16), but then fell to Manatee (39-33) and Clay (50-21). In the crossover match, which also effectively served as the Gainesville city title, Buchholz rolled past Gainesville, 66-6. The Bobcats were led by a max-point day from Armando Acosta (182, pin); Aiden Moore (126, 3 pins & decision), Kason Nichols (132, 2 pins & 2 decisions) and Jason Martin (195, 3 pins & decision) also all were 5-0 on the day. Matt Vann (170, 3 pins) and Jacob Robinson (285, 2 pins & decision) each were 4-1 for Buchholz, while Nevan Burney (220) was 3-1 and Cole Nixon (138, 2 pins) 3-2 for the Bobcats.

Middleburg (4-1, 1st in Gold pool): The Broncos swept through pool play, with wins over Leesburg (36-24), Interlachen (54-6), Gainesville (48-12) and Buchholz B (54-12) before taking a loss to Manatee, 54-18, in the crossover. Caiden Berg (106/113) was the only area wrestler in the tournament to pin his way through the day, while Jaden Lane (160/170, 3 pins) max-pointed through a 5-0 tournament. Ephraim Long (138/145, pin) and Michael Higginbotham (152, 2 pins) were both 4-0, while Aden Thornton (145/152, pin) was 4-1 for Middleburg. Alex Nayfack (160, pin) and Ethan Larsen (182/195, 3 pins) were both 3-2 for the Broncos.

Buchholz B (2-3, 3rd in Gold pool): The second group of Bobcats had pool victories over Gainesville (48-18) in round 1 and Interlachen (54-12) in round 3. Jailyn Sparkman (195, pin) was 4-0 on the day for Buchholz 2, while four Bobcats — Konstantine Kiousis (138, pin), George Shannon (160), William Lancer (170, pin) and Holden Mitrione (182, pin) — all were 3-2.

Gainesville (1-4, 4th in Gold pool): The Hurricanes earned their one dual win in round 5 of pool play, overcoming Interlachen, 16-12. Nicholas Hanson (160, 4 pins) max-pointed through a 5-0 day for Gainesville, while Brennan Kade (126, 2 pins) was 3-2.

Palatka (1-4, 5th in Black pool): The Panthers had their one dual victory in crossover action, defeating Buchholz B, 36-30. Palatka had three wrestlers that were 3-2 on the day, in: Drevon Wallace (126/132, 2 pins), Dre Nealy (145/152, 3 pins) and Adaris Medina (152/160, 2 pins & decision).

Interlachen (0-5, 5th in Gold pool): The Rams brought just three wrestlers on Saturday, but one of them — Eric Edwards (285, 2 pins) — was 3-2 on the day. Interlachen did record four pins as a group.
