#TheRecap: FPC, Seminole 3rd & 4th At Will Nutter

MERRITT ISLAND — Flagler Palm Coast was third and Seminole fourth in competition at the Will Nutter Memorial one-day tournament on Saturday.

The roundrobin tournament had the Bulldogs with 182 points and Noles with 163.5. Timber Creek held off Merritt Island, 260-230, for the title in the eight-team event, with Melbourne fifth (147), followed by Viera (67.5), Liberty (67) and Timber Creek B (66).

Below follows a summary of the tournament:

106 — FPC’s Kole Hannant was fourth, while Seminole’s Noah Barbour took eighth and Noles teammate Isabelle Hernandez was 10th. Hannant was 3-1 in Pool B (3 pins; loss by one point), losing by fall to Merritt Island’s Elijah Barrial (:49) in the third-place match. Barbour was 1-3 and Hernandez 0-4 in Pool A (Barbour by fall in 2:53 over Hernandez). Barbour lost by pin to Melbourne’s Gavin Howe (4:18) for seventh, while Hernandez lost by fall to Melbourne’s Hanna Baker (:36) for ninth.

113 — Seminole’s Corry Sanchez was second, Flagler’s Joe Rizzo 4th and the Noles’ Darian Raines 5th. Sanchez pinned his way through Pool A (3 pins), but then lost by fall (2:45) in the title match to Melbourne’s Connor Bechtol. Rizzo was 3-1 (2 pins & injury-default) to take second in Pool B, then lost by fall to Merritt Island’s Zane Hudson (2:36) in the third-place match. Raines was 2-2 (both wins by pin) in Pool B, majoring Liberty’s Jeremiah Tervil, 13-2, for fifth.

120 — FPC’s John Hald was fourth. Hald was 2-1 to take second in Pool A (pin & tech fall victories). In the third-place match, Viera’s Dylan Quiroga won by a 4-1 decision over Hald.

126 — Seminole’s Ethan Gorospe placed third, while the Bulldogs’ Sebastian Bedowski and Zach Clabby were sixth and seventh, respectively. Gorospe was 3-1 to take second in Pool A (2 pins & decision; only loss to eventual champ), then decisioned Merritt Island’s Lucien Comelchook, 4-1, for third. Bedowski was 2-2 in Pool B (both wins by pin), taking a loss by fall (:52) in the fifth-place match to Timber Creek’s Jacob McCrimmon. Clabby was 1-3 to finish fourth in Pool A (lone win by fall), then pinned Timber Creek B’s Christian Pham (3:41) for seventh.

132 — FPC’s Drew Dance took second and Seminole’s Angelina Jimeniz was eighth. Dance was 4-0 to win Pool B (3 pins & injury-default), but then lost in the championship match to Timber Creek’s Jayden Tapia by fall in 3:20. Jimeniz was was 1-3 in Pool B (lone win by medical forfeit), losing by fall (:48) in the seventh-place match to Timber Creek B’s Ethan Winters.

138 — Seminole’s Anshuman Singh was seventh. Singh was 0-3 to take fourth in Pool A, and had a bye in the seventh-place match.

145 — In a five-person pool, Seminole’s Isaac Epperson was third and Flagler Palm Coast’s Felipe Costa fourth. Epperson was 2-2 with a pin and 17-7 major in round 1 over Costa, who was 1-3 with a 12-5 victory over Timber Creek B’s Mason Villisaint in round 5.

152 — FPC’s Blane DeFord won the weight-class title and Seminole’s Gabriel Lacrosse was third. DeFord was 3-0 to win Pool B (2 pins, both in the first period, and forfeit), then added a third first-period fall (1:53) over Timber Creek’s Luke Conners. Lacrosse was 2-1 in Pool A (2 pins and third-period loss by fall to Conners), majoring Merritt Island’s Junior Furman, 11-3, for third.

160 — FPC’s Malaki Washington and Marcelo Gonzalez were second and third, respectively, and Seminole’s Ben Bohring was seventh. Washington pinned his way through Pool B (3-0), but then lost by fall in the championship match (2:38) to Timber Creek’s Carson Rick. Gonzalez was 3-1 (3 pins, third-period loss by fall to Rick in round 2) to take second in Pool A, pinning Timber Creek B’s Carlos Arciniegas in 2:45 for third. Bohring was 1-3 to place fourth in Pool A (lone win by fall in Round 2), pinning Liberty’s Antonio Rodriguez in 50 seconds for seventh.

170 — FPC’s Garrick Schwartz was second, with Seminole’s Justin Shima and Alex Lipton placing fifth and seventh, respectively. Schwartz was 2-0 in Pool A (pin & decision), but lost by fall in 1:08 to Merritt Island’s Elijah Johnson in the championship match. Shima was 1-2 in Pool B (by fall over Lipton in :57 in round 1) and pinned Timber Creek B’s Luis Santiago in 45 seconds for fifth. Lipton was 0-3 in Pool B and had a bye in the seventh-place match.

182 — FPC’s Dalton Schell was fourth and Seminole’s Clifford Pinthieve fifth in a six-man roundrobin bracket, respectively. Schell was 2-3 (2 pins in rounds 3 & 4) with a round-3 pin over Pinthieve in :42. Pinthieve was 1-4, with a 17-2 tech in round 5 over Liberty’s Isaiah Sabian.

195 — Seminole’s William Parker was third and FPC’s Joey Wronowski fourth, respectively, in a five-person bracket. Parker was 2-2, with two pins, the second of those in 4:20 over Wronowski in a match that effectively determined third place. Wronowski was 1-3, with a win by fall in round 4 over Melbourne’s Jacob Roberts.

220 — Seminole’s Jordan Smith won the weight class. Smith was 4-0 in Pool B, all wins by fall, and needed just 14 seconds to pin Timber Creek’s Peter Neshwiwat in the championship match.

285 — Seminole’s Curtis Ruff won the weight class and FPC’s Seth Davis was fourth in a five-person. Ruff was 4-0, all wins by pin, and pinned Timber Creek’s Daniel Garcia in 2:39 in Round 1 for the effective title. Davis was 2-2, with wins over Liberty’s Antonio Diaz (2:53, round 1) and Melbourne’s Colin Wakeman (1:20, round 4), including a loss to Ruff (3:45) in round 3.
