ST JOHNS — When reclassification came to the FHSAA this season, Creekside and Nease both moved up to Class 3A and the St Johns County rivals remained district rivals as well.
And while the Knights got off to a slower start than usual, they flexed their muscles Wednesday night at home, with eight pins and 10 victories in a 57-24 win over the Panthers.
The dual was close early — 18-12 through five weights — but the Knights won three in a row between 160 and 182, then three more again between 220 and 106 to close out the dual in their favor.
Michael Galiani (126), Nolan Anderson (132), Mateo Ramirez (145), Hunter Brown (170), Bryan Fortay (182), Robbie Balke (220), Vincent Approbato (285), Andrew Feeks (106) and Hunter England (120) all won by pin for Creekside (7-6), with Zach Johnson taking a 4-3 win at 160.
Nease (5-7) answered with pins from Jalon Lumar (138), Andrew Ryan (152) and Colin White (195).
The Knights and Panthers are now both off the competitive mats until January 4, when they’ll both be at Creekside for the St Johns County championships, a one-day roundrobin hosted by the Knights.
Wolfson 36, Atlantic Coast 29: At Wolfson, the Wolfpack had just a bit more of a lineup filled, and that was the difference in the year-ending dual for the two teams.
Max Lewallen (126), Emarre Campbell (132) and Andrew Pearson (152) each won by fall for Wolfson (2-5 in duals).
For the Stingrays (3-10), Eric Harper (113), Richard Carson (138) and John Johnson (220) all had pins, while Joel Dudley took a 16-0 tech fall at 145.
Both teams return in January. Atlantic Coast will be first back, going to Fleming Island’s Keystone Memorial on January 3-4, while Wolfson will get back on the competitive mats on January 9 with the 1A-District 4 dual team tournament.
