#TheRecap: Tough Day For Seahawks At Trey Culotta

NEW ORLEANS, LA — In one of the Southeast’s stronger tournaments of the weekend, with state-champion level programs from three different states in attendance, the Trey Culotta Invitational, hosted by Brother Martin HS Friday and Saturday, was a tough place for South Walton to be.

The Seahawks were 24th out of 25 teams in the field, scoring 16 points. The hosts held off a spirited challenge from Georgia state champions Woodward Academy, 301-283.5, for the overall title, with Vestavia Hills ALA third (231.5), followed by Louisiana teams St Pauls (220) and Parkway (186.5) to round out the top five.

120 — CJ Inman was 0-3 in pool D, qualifying for the championship round, where he lost by fall in the first round to Parkway’s eighth-place Garrette Larsen.

126 — Like Inman at 120, Randall Yates was 0-3 in pool A, qualifying into the championship round, taking a loss by fall in the first round to Live Oak LA’s third-place Clayton Hill.

132 — Canyon Dart was 0-3 in pool E competition, going six minutes in each match, but did not advance to the championship round.

138 — Ryan Kurfirst was 0-3 in pool E competition and did not advance to the championship round.

145 — Shane Lane was 0-3 in pool B competition and did not advance to the championship round.

152 — John Lopez was 0-3 in pool E competition and did not advance to the championship round.

160 — Seth Marshall was 0-2 in pool A competition, qualifying to the championship round, where he lost by fall to Parkway’s sixth-place Jacob Chittom.

170 — Dylan Garner was 2-1 (wins by pin and decision) and second in pool A, but then lost by fall in the first round of the bracketed competition to St Pauls’ sixth-place Blain Cascio.

195 — Payton Ubben was 1-2 (win by fall) and third in pool A, but then lost by fall in the first round of bracketed competition to Parkway’s fifth-place Jaden Jones.

220 — Nick Lee was 0-2 in pool D and qualified out to the championship round, where he lost by fall in the first round to Brother Martin’s Kyle West, the eventual runnerup in the tournament.

285 — Andrew Thompson was 0-2 in pool A and qualified out to the championship round, where he lost by fall to Zachary LA’s sixth-place Osee Anderson.
