PALM COAST — Matanzas took advantage of an in-school opportunity to showcase its team to the Pirate student body Wednesday afternoon, as the Pirates defeated University-Orange City, 54-24, in their final tuneup prior to hosting Saturday’s 2A-District 4 dual tournament.

Matanzas got falls from Braden Hawley (106), Ethan Goodman (120), Shaun Culbreth (126), George Joanos (138), Brandyn Cox (145), Noel Alicea (152), Tristian Williams (160), Quenteen Robinson (170) and Robert Elder (285) in the dual victory.

Patrick King (113), Aaron Liberti (182) and Christian Kennick (220) answered with pins for the Titans.

While Matanzas is hosting district duals Saturday, UOC’s next date on the calendar after this competition was their hosting of 3A-District 2, in which the Titans were third. University-Orange City will host DeLand on Tuesday in the Battle of the Chunk contest between the two conference and district rivals.

Atlantic 54, New Smyrna Beach 18: At Atlantic, the host Sharks won three in a row between 113-126 and 160-182 to take the dual win between 5 Star Conference rivals.

Bernaldo Alvarez (113), Jeremiah Epps (138), David Arcieri (160) and Noah Anderson (170) had pins for Atlantic, with Jamey Bruner (6-3 at 126) and Avante Chamble (6-5 at 145) earning decisions for the Sharks.

Michael Shannon (132) and Austin Mitchum (195) had falls for the Barracudas.

Atlantic will host 1A-Region 2 dual team competition on Thursday, while New Smyrna Beach will be at Matanzas for 2A-District 4 dual team action on Saturday.

Raines 30, FSDB 15: At Raines, the Vikings got falls from Raynarde Thomas (182) and Christian McNair (195), with three victories by forfeit in the dual win.

The Dragons had contested wins from Sean Meyers (pin at 132) and Lance Gardenhire (14-13 win at 120).

Raines will host Robert E. Lee on Wednesday, while FSDB will travel to Union for a dual on Tuesday.
