PALM COAST — Getting in a midweek dual prior to region competition might be risky.
But Flagler Palm Coast rolled the dice Tuesday night and survived the experience mostly unscathed, hosting Creekside and taking a 54-19 victory over the St Johns County Knights in a final tuneup before heading to Fleming Island on Thursday for one and perhaps two duals in the FIHS gym.
Flagler Palm Coast won 10 weight classes, including five in a row between 126 and 152, in which all five Flagler Cty Bulldogs — Brendan Buckles (126), Andrew Dance (132), Kyle Peacock (138), Timothy King (145) and Blane DeFord (152) — won by fall. Kole Hannant (106), Garrick Schwartz (170) and AJ Cinelli (285) also added pins for FPC, with Joseph Rizzo (113) taking an 11-0 major and Seth Davis (220) taking a 14-11 decision.
Creekside had pins from Hunter England (120) and Josh Benavides (195), with Jalen Hines (182) winning with a 16-6 major and Hunter Brown (160) taking a 13-7 win.
Flagler Palm Coast will face Oakleaf in a 3A-Region 1 quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Thursday at Fleming. Creekside is off until January 25, when the Knights travel to DeLand to compete in the one-day Bulldogs IBT.
Bolles 49, Episcopal 30: At Episcopal, the hosts jumped out to a 12-0 lead, but Bolles came back to take the dual behind five straight wins between 182 and 106, all with bonus-point wins.
Denny Vohs (132), Tyson Riley (145), Skylar Malone (160), JT Jameson (195) and Jacob Witt (106) each had pins for the Jax-based Bulldogs. Ethan Asbury (182) added a 19-6 major and Dalton Posick (138) powered through a 7-6 win for Bolles as well.
Four of Episcopal’s weight-class wins came by forfeit. Brennan Doherty (170) was the Eagles’ lone winner in a contested match (by fall).
Episcopal jumps back in on Saturday, with a trip to Tallahassee for the Trojan Invitational at Lincoln. Bolles is off until January 24, when the Bulldogs go to Terry Parker for the two-day Parker Duals.
Seminole 46, Oviedo 34: At Seminole, the Noles bagged pins from Corry Sanchez (113), Carrolino Reyes (120), Ethan Gorospe (126), Gabriel Lacrosse (145), Jordan Smith (220) and Curtis Ruff (285).
Isabale Hernandez (106) added an 11-3 major for Seminole.
The Noles are off until Friday, when they travel to St Cloud for the two-day Milton-Winter Memorial IBT event.
