#TheRecap: Baker Cty Holds Back Hosts For Westside RR Title

JACKSONVILLE — Just one extra pin separated the top two teams in Saturday’s Westside Roundrobin at Westside.

In the end, Baker Cty had just one more pin — essentially — than did the host Wolverines in taking the team title, as the Wildcats outscored Westside, 196-194, to finish on top of the standings.

Forest was third, with 154 points, while Cocoa outdistanced the rest of the local field for fourth at 129.5.

West Nassau had one more pin than Stanton for fifth, holding off the Blue Devils, 92-90. Sandalwood was seventh (84), followed by Fernandina Beach (80), Bishop Snyder (75), Ed White (63) and Baldwin (zero).

Below follows a summary of the tournament:

106 — Forest’s Jakob Zawosky pinned his way through the draw, with pins over the eventual 6th and 3rd prior to the final, then a third fall in 20 seconds over Westside’s Deshawn Reaves (pin & major prior to final). Westside’s Blayden Tharpe pinned Fernandina’s Nik Saldana in 1:42 for third and Stanton’s Kenneth Caldeo pinned Cocoa’s Baily Thimes in 1:51 for fifth.

113 — In a three-person weight class, West Nassau’s Jackson Holcomb needed just 51 seconds to pin Baker Cty’s Thomas Torres and Forest’s Gabriele Mulford for the weight-class win. Torres pinned Mulford in 2:44 for second place

120 — Bishop Snyder’s Christian Villanueva had a fall to win Pool A, then added three additional pins to win the bracketed competition, pinning Pool B champion Shane Bullard of Baker Cty (4 pins prior to final) in 3:07 for the title. The hosts’ Olleon Hickman, the Pool D champ, pinned Pool C champ Nick Stua of Forest in 5:20 for third, while Bishop Snyder’s Alex Crews pinned Isiah Cuff of Cocoa in 1:34 for fifth.

126 — Cocoa’s Ronald Theilacker had two pins to take Pool B, then added two more, book-ended around an 8-7 semifinal win over the eventual 3rd, in crossover competition, pinning Baker Cty’s David Jackson, the Pool D champ (2 pins & major prior to final), in 2:32 for the title. Fernandina’s Jeremy Mahoney, the Pool C champ, pinned Pool A champ Austin Davoli of Bishop Snyder in 36 seconds for third, while Sandalwood’s Gaige Floyd falled Baker’s Joshua Carter in 3:36 for fifth.

132 — In a four-person weight class that was effectively three, Sandalwood’s Juvens Augustin had two pins and a forfeit for the title, with the effective championship match taking place in Round 2, where he pinned the hosts’ Donovan White in 2:47. White pinned Stanton’s Matthew Mock in 2:32 in Round 3 to place second, while Mock won by forfeit for third.

138 — Sandalwood’s Lavaughn Brown decisioned the eventual 3rd in the semis, then came back in the final with a pin in 1:19 over Stanton’s Gabriel Navarro (2 pins prior to final). West Nassau’s Bradley Hulett pinned Baker’s Dylen Goldsmith for third place and Ed White’s Sebastian Gonzalez pinned Westside’s Kristopher Fleming in 1:18 for fifth.

145 — Cocoa’s Jeremiah Funk won Pool C with a 13-11 decision, then bonus-pointed through the crossover bracket, with two pins and a major, the second pin in the final in 3:38 over the hosts’ Steven Millikin, the Pool D champ (3 pins & major prior to final). Forest’s Tyler Miller, the Pool B champ, pinned Pool A champ Liam Salem of Stanton in 3:38 for third place, while West Nassau’s Gibreen Ahmad falled Bishop Snyder’s Joseeh Mivunda in :17 for fifth.

152 — In a four-person bracket, Cocoa’s Nicholas Blue had three pins, falling Baker County’s Brenden Bradley in 3:11 in Round 3 for the effective championship match. Bradley had two pins, pinning Stanton’s Jesse Liu in 5:33 for second, while Liu pinned Cocoa’s Alexas Escobar in 1:19 in Round 3 for third.

160 — West Nassau’s Requan Works sandwiched a 14-10 semifinal win over the eventual 3rd with two pins, falling Baker County’s Clayton Dennison (2 pins prior to final) in 1:57 for the title. Sandalwood’s Joshua Brown won by injury default over Forest’s Tyrone O’Neal, while Cocoa’s Troy Sawyer was fifth with an 8-0 major over Sandalwood’s Michael Torres.

170 — In a five-person weight class that was effectively four, the hosts’ Angelo Philpot (6th-2A) bonus-pointed through the day, with two pins, a 14-4 major and a forfeit. His win by major, over Fernandina Beach’s Jeremiah Giedrys (17th-1A) in Round 1, was the effective championship match. Giedrys (2 pins & forfeit) took second with a Round 4 pin in 1:22 over Forest’s Casey Carr; Carr, in turn, pinned Baker Cty’s Richard Long in 1:17 in Round 2 for third.

182 — Pool D champ John Merritt won his pool with two pins, then added three more in the crossover bracket, with a 52-second fall in the finals over Pool B champ Alvont Graham of Forest (2 pins & decision prior to final). An all-Fernandina match for third saw Pool C champ Kolby Kidd pin teammate Kyle Hutchinson, the Pool A champ, in 27 seconds, while Sandalwood’s William Rosenberger pinned Bishop Snyder’s Carson Bowers in 3:29 for fifth.

195 — A six-person full roundrobin led to Forest’s Jacob Pratt collecting five pins for the weight class win. Pratt’s fall in Round 2 over Stanton’s Charles Woo (1:48) was the effective championship match. Woo had four pins, pinning Westside’s Elijah Williams (1:18) for second, while Williams had three pins n taking third, falling teammate Terrance Alexander in 1:30 in Round 1 for third. Alexander had two pins, pinning Forest’s Brennyn Valdes in 2:34 for fourth; Valdes pinned Ed White’s Caison Davis in 3:03 in Round 5 to take fifth.

220 — Another six-person full roundrobin saw Baker Cty’s Pierce Kirkland take three pins, an injury-default win and a 10-4 decision in Round 2 over Cocoa’s Zachary Gay for the championship. Gay had three pins and injury-default for second, pinning Baker Cty’s Garrett Cain in 1:16 in Round 4. Cain had two pins and a decision, with his Round 2 fall over West Nassau’s Jackson Rowell good for third. Rowell had two pins, falling Ed White’s Jarred Ball in 1:49 for fourth, while Ball pinned Westside’s Malique Zuell in 1:35 for fifth.

285 — Westside’s Ray Bolden (5th-2A) won Pool D with a pin, then had a second fall and two decisions to take the crossover bracket, decisioning Ed White’s Salvador Rodriguez, the Pool C champ (4 pins prior to final) by a 6-5 count in the final. Baker Cty’s Jaqrez Elliott, the Pool A champ, falled teammate Daeshawn Larry in 5 minutes for third, while Ed White’s Larry McCurdy decisioned Forest’s Kaleb Thompson, 8-5, for fifth.
