#YouthRecap: BearClaw Classic

North Florida Matmen staff report

CRAWFORDVILLE — Riversprings Middle hosted the 2020 Bearclaw Classic on January 11. No team scores were kept (at least as reported to Trackwrestling).

Below follows a quick summary of each weight class:

72 — Florida High’s Sterling Hollingsworth had three pins for the title, falling the eventual third-, fourth-place and runnerups along the way, with a fall in the final over Riversprings’ Matthew Thaxton (pin prior to final).

82 — Riversprings’ Troy Thaxton had two pins for his title, falling Tallahassee Battle’s Chase Brown (2 pins prior to final) in the championship match.

87 — Niceville’s Sal Ricchio had three pins, with a pin over the eventual third in the semis and a third fall over Florida High’s Kyle Montgomery (2 pins prior to final) for the title.

92 — Florida High’s Delondre Leconte had two pins for the bracket win, pinning the eventual-3rd in the semis and falling teammate Dalvon Charlton (pin prior to final) for his bracket win.

97 — Riversprings’ David Culley picked up four falls, including over the eventual 4th in the quarters, with his fourth pin in the final over Wakulla Middle’s Harper Merrick (2 pins prior to final).

102 — Niceville’s Grady Randolph bagged three pins, with the third coming in the finals against Tallahassee Battle’s Grant Melendez (2 pins prior to final).

115 — Tallahassee Battle’s Ethan Jackson won by fall four times, with a pin over the eventual 4th in the semis and his fourth pin in the final against Niceville’s Tyler Gump (2 pins prior to final).

122 — Riversprings’ Nate Jacobs took the bracket with four pins, pinning the eventual 3rd in the quarters and taking his fourth pin in the championship match over Wakulla’s Nathan Sewell (2 pins prior to final).

128 — Cairo GA’s Palmer Harrel had two pins in winning the bracket, with a pin in the final over Riversprings’ Carter Peak (2 pins prior to final).

134 — Riversprings’ Max Harvey collected four pins, with a fall over the eventual 3rd in the round of 16 and a pin in the finals over Florida High’s Bryson Merkel (pin prior to final).

140 — Florida High’s Anthony Bedoya won by pin twice, pinning the eventual 4th in the semis and falling Riversprings’ Sultan Ellington (pin prior to final) in the championship match.

147 — Florida High’s Xander Hawkes took two pins for his bracket victory, with a fall over the eventual 3rd in the semis and a pin in the final over teammate Matthew Tucker (2 pins prior to final).

172 — Florida High’s Colin BIshop won by fall twice, with a pin over the eventual 3rd in the semis and a second pin in the final over Riversprings’ Aaron Caquimbo (pin prior to final).

197 — Riversprings’ Adleigh Caquimbo won by fall twice, including pins over the eventual 3rd in the semis and over Grappling House’s Nick Groves in the championship match.

222 — Wakulla’s Hershal Blackman took pins over the eventual 3rd in the semis and a second pin over Riversprings’ Edgar Caquimbo in the finals.

287 — Cairo GA’s Cedtron Brown won by fall twice over the eventual 3rd in the semis and then over teammate Callis Cooper (pin prior to final) in the championship.
