#YouthRecap: Lake Asbury Takes Toughman

MIDDLEBURG — Lake Asbury pushed the rest of a nine-team field to win the Wilkinson Toughman one-day double-elimination middle-school tournament on January 11.

Lake Asbury scored 283 points in the tournament, pulling away from Green Cove Springs (249) and Wilkinson (238). Lake City was fourth with 170.5 pints, followed by Suwannee (150.5), Lakeside (141.5), Episcopal (123.5), Orange Park (106) and Oakleaf (48).

Below follows a summary of the tournament:

75 — Suwannee’s Eli Jolicoeur had three pins, falling the eventual 4th, 3rd and then runnerup Lukas Gerlach (2 pins prior to final) in 1:30 for the championship.

80 — Lake Asbury’s KJ Rheaume had three pins over the eventual 3rd, eventual 4th and then second-place Keshawn Johnson of Suwannee (14-8 win prior to final).

85 — Green Cove’s Brady Glavine pinned his way into the finals, where he turned back Suwannee’s Justin Contreras (2 pins prior to final) by an 8-4 count in the championship match.

90 — Lake Asbury’s Jacob Bucci won by fall three times, with a pin over the eventual fourth in the quarters and a fall in :48 in the finals over Suwannee’s Xzander Boehn (2 pins prior to final).

95 — Lakeside’s Matthew Newman bookended a 9-7 semifinal win over the eventual 4th with pins, the second of those in 4:48 in the final over Green Cove’s Vonte Burke (pin/injury default/15-4 major prior to final).

100 — Suwannee’s Austin McKinney bonus-pointed through to the bracket win, with two pins and a 19-5 major over the eventual 3rd. McKinney’s second pin was in 3:49 in the finals over Orange Park’s Ryder Pimienta (2 pins prior to final).

106 — Lake Asbury’s Wyatt Leduc had pins in the quarters and semis (over eventual 4th), then shut out Wilkinson’s Grady Woodard (pin & decision prior to final), 9-0, for the bracket victory.

113 — Lake City’s Austin Smith had three pins en route to the title, with his semifinal pin over the eventual 3rd, and his third pin in the finals over Oakleaf’s Markos Barfield (2 pins & 6-1 decision prior to final).

120 — Wilkinson’s Zane Raulerson had four pins, including a semifinal fall over the eventual 3rd and a finals pin in 2:11 over Lakeside’s Christopher Chop (pin & decision prior to final).

126 — Green Cove’s Gunner Ivey won by fall three times, pinning the eventual 3rd in the semis. Ivey needed just 16 seconds to fall Episcopal’s Chance Wolff (pin, medical forfeit & 8-4 decision prior to final) in the championship match.

132 — Wilkinson’s Chandler Thomas had four pins, with his third over the eventual 3rd in the semis and his fourth in 21 seconds in the title match over Lake Asbury’s Shane White (3 pins prior to final).

138 — Lake Asbury’s Hayden Meszaros pinned his way into the final, with a quarterfinal pin over the eventual 3rd, and then shut out Lake City’s Kareem Kinlock (3 pins prior to final), 7-0, for the bracket victory.

145 — Lakeside’s Caiden Kowal bonus-pointed through the draw, with three pins and a 17-1 tech. Kowal pinned the eventual 3rd in the semis and falled runnerup Nick Wilkerson of Lake City (3 pins prior to final) in 1:21 for the title.

152 — Lake Asbury’s Gavin Rossow had three falls, with a semifinal pin over the eventual 3rd (his longest match of the day) and a 35-second fall in the title match against Episcopal’s Christian McGarity (2 pins & tech prior to final).

160 — Green Cove’s Nathan Newman won by fall three times, with pins over the eventual 4th in the quarters and a fall in 2:15 in the championship match over Wilkinson’s Tucker Cody (2 pins prior to final).

170 — Wilkinson’s Austin Joiner had three falls in 51 seconds, with a 15-second pin over the eventual 3rd in the quarters and a 12-second pin in the championship match over Green Cove’s Ladarius Jackson (2 decisions prior to final).

182 — Episcopal’s Lawson Perry had a 33-second pin, an 11-0 major, and then had to push past Lake City’s Auvontae Smith (2 pins prior to final), 6-5, for his bracket victory.

195 — Green Cove’s Jadon Bell pinned his way into the finals, with a semifinal pin over the eventual 3rd, and then shut out Wilkinson’s Dylan Cloud (2 pins prior to final), 7-0, for the championship.

220 — Green Cove’s Gage Isbell had a pin over the eventual 3rd in the semis, then decisioned Lake Asbury’s Ronan Carns (pin prior to final) by a 7-1 count in the finals match.

285 — Green Cove’s Zeth Wager had two pins, falling the eventual 3rd in the semis, and then pinning Lake City’s Allen Irish (pin prior to final) in 1 minute for the title.
