DAYTONA BEACH — Seabreeze probably won’t be favored to win this weekend’s Flagler Rotary at Flagler Palm Coast.
But the Sandcrabs will be one of very few teams to enter the Rotary with a two-tournament win streak after going 5-0 in Saturday’s Ray Hollingsworth Duals at home and winning Citrus’ Ed Kilpatrick IBT the previous weekend.
Seabreeze defeated First Baptist Christian (69-12), Belleview (54-18), Palatka (60-22), Space Coast (63-18) and Chiles (41-35), in succession, to improve to 20-3 in duals on the season.
Eleven different wrestlers won at least three matches during the tournament for the Sandcrabs, with Kobe Baert (120/126), Nik Crossman (140/145), Brock Roberts (152/160) and Victor Lipsey (160/170) all “max-pointing” (scoring 6 team dual points in all duals contested).
Roberts pinned all five opponents put in front of him, while Crossman and Lipsey had four falls each and Baert had three.
Grant Schwartz (138, 4 pins & decision) and Caiden Patton (195/220, 3 pins & decision) also were 5-0 for Seabreeze, while Connor Flagg (195) was 3-0 in a regular but not exclusive starting role.
Joseph Kent (113, pin & decision), Ben Orlowski (120/126, 2 pins & decision), Chris Thomas (182) and Nathan Boyd (220, 4 pins) all were 4-1 for the Sandcrabs.
Below follows a summary of the other local teams in the tournament:
Chiles: The Timberwolves were 4-1, with wins in the first four rounds over Palatka (55-23), First Baptist Christian (66-18), Space Coast (39-36) and Belleview (57-21) in succession before facing off with Seabreeze for the finale. Three Chiles wrestlers were 5-0 max-pointers, as Kevonte Times (170, 2 pins), Kyle McGill (182/195, 3 pins) and Austin Wheeler (220, 4 pins) scored max points in every round. Alex Adkins (132, pin & 3 decisions) joined them in the ranks of the Chiles unbeaten on Saturday. Garrett Marschka (106, 3 pins & tech) and Kadis Nafal (182/195, 2 pins) were both 4-1 for Chiles, while Preston Scoggins (138/145, 3 pins) was 3-1 and Hunter Brown (113/120, 2 pins), Andrew Mullins (145/152, 2 pins & major) and Will Wiggins (160, pin) each were 3-2 for the Timberwolves.
Belleview: The Rattlers took wins in Round 3 over First Baptist Christian (60-18) and Palatka (42-30), with a Round 1 38-36 loss to Space Coast. Leading the charge for Belleview was Ke’aundre Solomon (285, 2 pins), who was the only Rattler to collect four wins on the day at 4-1. Michael Ventre (120, 2 pins), Eric McLaughlin (152, 2 pins & decision), Shaun Young (160, 2 pins), Cornelius Bentley-Greene (170, pin & decision) and Nathan Halstead (195, pin) were all 3-2 in the tournament for Belleview.
First Baptist Christian: The Crusaders were 1-4 in the tournament, with a 48-33 victory over Palatka in Round 4 and a 54-30 loss to Space Coast in Round 5. Jordan Mills (138, 3 pins) and Tyson Mills (152, 3 pins) were both 4-1 for FBCA, while Nathaniel Varol (182, pin) and Trevor Banks (220/285) were both 3-2.
Palatka: Although the Panthers had no dual wins (including a 42-35 loss in Round 2 to Space Coast) — with just nine wrestlers, that was always going to be a tough thing — five Panthers won four or more matches. Drevon Wallace (126, 4 pins) and Marlon Williams (285, 4 pins) were both 5-0 max-pointers, while Mikada Harvey (106, 3 pins & major), Ontarriyus Reid (120, 3 pins) and Brandon Lewis (132, 2 pins & tech) all were 4-1 for Palatka.
