FLEMING ISLAND — After three years of FHSAA state dual team tournament appearances, and three years as the traditional tournament runnerup in Class 3A, the Fleming Island senior class was honored for its achievements Wednesday night.
And they, along with their underclassmen teammates, did what they’ve done against area competition all season, as the Golden Eagles routed Yulee, 69-12, on Senior Night.
Fleming Island (25-2 in duals) got pins from seniors Jeffrey Lascano (195), Chad Nix (220), Dalton Williams (138), Gannon Janssen (145), Luke Chop (160) and Nick Janssen (182), while senior Tanner Hill (152) took a 12-5 decision.
Hunter Herrington (113), Isaac Padgett (145) and Gavin Smith (170) also added pins for the Golden Eagles.
Yulee’s lone contested win came from Darquill Brown (285), who won by fall.
Fleming Island will be at the Flagler Rotary on Friday and Saturday, while Yulee will go across the state to Wakulla’s two-day IBT on Friday and Saturday.
Orange Park 36, Episcopal 25: At Episcopal, the Raiders spoiled the Eagles’ Senior Night with the away win, repeating a win from earlier at the Rob Bierbaum Invitational.
Cameron Broughton (145) and Jacob Moore (195) both had pins for the Raiders, while Davon Bailey (6-5 at 120) and Jose Indio (7-3 at 182) both took decisions.
Episcopal got pins from Noah Meyer (132) and Brennan Doherty (160), with Christian Ryan (14-3 at 113) taking a major and senior Reid Hampton (10-3 at 152) winning by decision.
Orange Park will go to Wakulla this weekend, while Episcopal will compete in the Flagler Rotary.
Pine Ridge 42, Deltona 39: At Deltona, the visitors won the crosstown rivalry between intracity, conference and district rivals.
Devon Heil (106) and Walter Warner won by pin for the Panthers, which took five straight forfeits between 152 and 195.
For the host Wolves, Luis Vazquez (120), Carlos Pineda (126) and Ethan Chiu (220) won by fall, while Aaron DeBouver got a reversal from the down position for a 4-2, ultimate-tiebreaker win at 285.
Pine Ridge will be at the Flagler Rotary, while Deltona is off until Saturday, when it goes to Steinbrenner for the Live Greco one-day IBT.
Hagerty 69, Matanzas 6: At Hagerty, the hosts won the first seven matches, then took the final six, with five pins, a tech fall, major and two decisions.
George Joanos (132) was the Pirates’ lone weight-class winner, with a second-period pin.
Matanzas will be at the Flagler Rotary on Friday.
Missing duals: Results from Bartram Trail-Robert E. Lee, Bradford-Middleburg, Atlantic-Lake Howell and West Port-Weeki Wachee were not reported to Matmen by the time of this writing.
