2/4 #DailyRoundup: Choctaw, Baker, Mainland, Gulf Breeze Take Wins

FT WALTON BEACH — Choctaw closed out its 2019-20 regular season with six pins and a 51-24 victory over 2A-District 1 rival Crestview Tuesday night at home for Senior Night.

The Indians got pins from Steven Banfield (132), Devonte Knox (145), Sherman Fuller (152), Ben Semenov (160), Caden Nimmo (195) and Michael Barton (285), plus an 8-4 decision from Eli Devoid at 138.

Crestview picked up pins from Tyler Mason (126), Layne Franks (170), Julio Fernandez (182) and Kennard Madden (220).

The Bulldogs have one more dual at Tate on Tuesday, while Choctaw will next compete on February 22 at the 2A-District 1 traditional tournament, hosted by Gulf Breeze.

Baker Cty 48, University Christian 14: At University Christian, the visiting Wildcats took eight forfeits in collecting the away dual victory.

Baker Cty got forfeits at each weight between 126 through 145, plus pairs of forfeit wins at 160-170 and 220-285.

University Christian won all of the contested matches, as Jayce Paridon (113) won by fall, Egan Gustilo (120) took a 19-3 tech and Jackie Dinh won by an 8-3 decision at 182.

Baker Cty hosts Stanton on Thursday, while the Christians will next be at Clay’s two-day Rotary IBT on Friday and Saturday.

Mainland 46, Tohopekaliga 18: At Mainland, the Buccaneers celebrated Senior Night by allowing just one contested victory.

Isaias Davila (138), Xavier Logan (145), Tommy Short (195), Doug Dittmer (220) and Jordan Colubiale (285) all had pins for Mainland, while Brady Howe took a 23-10 major at 182 and Hayden Heilman (8-7 at 113) and Sean Baughman (7-3 at 132) both won by decision.

The Buccaneers will get right back on the mats tonight, traveling to crosstown rival Seabreeze for its home quad meet.

Gulf Breeze 58, W S Neal ALA 6: At Neal HS, the Dolphins wrapped up their regular season without allowing a contested victory.

Wyatt Sise (145) and Bryson Wick (220) both had pins for Gulf Breeze, which had six forfeits as well. Ian Daily (21-5 at 138) and Hunter Dupont (19-3 at 170) both added tech falls for the Dolphins.

Gulf Breeze now has 2 1/2 weeks off the competitive mats to prepare for hosting the 2A-District 1 traditional tournament on Feb. 22.
