2/13 #DailyRoundup: Wakulla Lowers Carry Day; Chiles 3-0 In Season Wrap

CRAWFORDVILLE — In the annual Tallahassee-area rivalry dual involving the two of the north’s four best teams, Wakulla* sent off its senior group with a 51-18 victory over Lincoln Thursday night.

After spotting the hosts a 6-0 lead on decisions from Jayvon Brown (4-3 at 170) and Hayden Reeves (4-0 at 182), Lincoln seized some early momentum, with three falls carrying the Trojans to an 18-9 lead.

Tanner Washburn (195), Tyler Moss (285) and Elijah Hendley (106) had pins surrounding a Slade Watkins 5-1 win at 220 to get Lincoln out front with eight weights to go.

From there, though, the dual was all Wakulla, as the War Eagles put on a 42-0 run to close it out.

Jae Thaxton (126) recaptured the lead for Wakulla with a second-period fall to make it 24-18 War Eagles, and his pin was followed by falls from Matthew Owen (132), Jackson Merrick (138), Noah Wilson (145) and Cole Baggett (160).

George Hernandez (9-8 at 113) and Chase Roberts (5-1 at 152) both added decisions for the War Eagles, with Hernandez’s win starting the Wakulla run.

Both teams will be hosting district tournaments next weekend. Wakulla hosts the 1A-District 2 meet on Feb. 21, while Lincoln will handle 2A-District 2 hosting on Feb. 22.

Chiles double dual: At Chiles, the hosts actually won three duals, with wins over Florida High (60-24), Ridgeview (62-15) and Godby (54-12).

Ridgeview (33-24 over Godby) and Florida High (42-18 over Godby) also took dual victories.

For the Timberwolves, Garrett Marschka (106), Hunter Brown (113, pin), Olufemi Egberongbe (138, pin & decision), Andrew Mullins (145/152, 2 pins), Kevonte Times (170, 2 pins), Kyle McGill (182/195, 2 pins & tech) and Austin Wheeler (220, pin) were each 3-0. Chance Newhouse (120, 2 pins) and Will Wiggins (2-0, pin) were both 2-0, while Alex Adkins (132, pin) and Cody Elliott (182/195) were 2-1 each.

Florida High got double-winner performances from Dennis Ganim (145, pin), Micah Perdue (160, pin) and Collin Bishop (182, pin & decision), while Ridgeview double winners were Shawn Tahir (132, decision) and Gabe Guzman (145, pin). Godby’s Gabriel Richardson (285, pin) was 3-0 for the Cougars, while Robert Harrell (220, pin) was 2-1.

Ridgeview is first up on the mats next week, going to Clay for the 1A-District 4 meet on Wednesday. Florida High and Godby will be at 1A-District 2 on Feb. 21 and Chiles will be at 2A-District 2 on Feb. 22.

Mosley 45, Arnold 34: At Mosley, the Dolphins got off the floor after spotting the vistors a 28-6 deficit, winning seven matches in a row from 132 through 182.

Nick Hejke (132), Jaylan Griffin (138), Carter Wascom (145), Kaydon Lester (160) and Noe Pena (182) all won by falls, with Jonathan Griffin (152) taking an 11-5 decision in a key win, according to coach John Winkler.

Arnold had pins from Lucas Biddle (113), Will Ashby (126) and Tyler Lewis (195), with Justin Harry taking an 11-3 major at 220.

Both teams are now off until district competitions, with Arnold going first on February 21 with the 1A-District 1 meet at Wewahitchka. Mosley will be at Lincoln’s 2A-District 2 meet on February 22.
