#TheRecap: Suwannee Takes Viper RR Title

COCOA — The Suwannee program has never been afraid to take to the road and find new competition.

Saturday, the Bulldogs made the road trip from Live Oak to the central Florida beaches to compete in the seven-team Viper Roundrobin, taking four weight-class titles and winning the event with 193.5 points, 25 ahead of the runnerup hosts.

Mainland (sixth, 52 points) and Godby (seventh, 48) also made the trip with partial lineups.

Below follows a summary of the tournament, with local performances as applicable:

113 (no 106 bracket) — Space Coast wrestlers went 1-2, as Anthony Edwards (8th-1A) was 4-0 and Raider Morelli (15th-1A at 106) 3-1 on the day, coming out of the stronger A pool. Suwannee’s Brody Boehm (2-2, 2 pins) and Foster Swain (1-3, pin) also were in the A pool and placed third and fourth, respectively, while Mainland’s Hayden Heilman (3-1, 2 pins & tech) was 3-1, coming from the B pool, and placed fifth.

120 — In a six-person roundrobin, the hosts’ Ryan Vite was 5-0 with four pins and a tech fall, with that tech — a 19-4 third-period version over Port St Lucie’s Michael Tolbert in Round 1 — the effective championship match. Mainland’s Brian Harris was third (3-2, pin/tech/decision), while Suwannee’s Kenan Tucker (1-4, pin) was fifth and Waylon Poole (0-5) sixth.

126 — The Bulldogs’ Timothy Jolicoeur (12th-1A) swept the day in a five-person roundrobin, going 4-0 with three pins and a tech fall. After a round-1 bye, Jolicoeur’s round-5 fall over runnerup Charles Tarey (3:02) was the effective championship match.

132 — Suwannee’s Jaxon Sansouci (18th-1A) won the weight class in a six-person roundrobin, going 5-0 with three pins, a 15-2 major and a 2-1 decision in round 5 over Bayside’s Sean Artman as the effective championship match. The Bulldogs’ Ayden Kirby was third (3-2, 2 pins & win by DQ), while Mainland’s Heath Hilado was fifth (1-4, decision).

138 — In two weighted pools, Space Coast’s Michael Squires (4-0, 4 pins) won the title out of Pool A, with his 45-second pin in round 2 over Bayside’s Demetrius Strong (3-1, pin & 2 decisions) the effective championship match. Suwannee’s Tyson Musgrove (2-2, 2 pins) was third, and Bulldog teammate Yahir Hernandez (1-3, pin in Pool B) was seventh.

145 — The Bulldogs’ Caleb Parsons swept through a six-person roundrobin, going 5-0 with five pins. His round 3 pin over Eau Gallie’s Anthony Gallahan, in 1:38, was the effective championship match.

152 — In a five-person roundrobin, Bayside’s Peter Gordon was 4-0, with four pins, including a a Round 3 pin over Space Coast’s Nathan Pyatt the effective championship match. Suwannee’s Austin Howard (2-2, 2 pins) was third.

160 — A four-person roundrobin saw Port St Lucie’s Elijah Yuhas win the weight class, going 3-0 with three pins, falling Space Coast’s Lloyd Pankow in Round 1 as the effective title match. Suwannee’s Jim King (1-2, pin) was third and Mainland’s Fred Bowen (0-3) was fourth.

170 — In two weighted pools, Eau Gallie’s Julian Stoneman (12th-2A) won the weight class with a 4-0 day (pin & 3 techs), teching Port St Lucie’s Devon Yearby (18-3 in 3:31) in Round 1 for the effective championship. Suwannee’s Dustin Wood (2-2, 2 pins) was third and Godby’s Thomas Branson (1-3, pin, competing in Pool B) was seventh.

182 — In a five-person roundrobin, Suwannee’s Blaine Howard (16th-1A) was 4-0 with two pins, an injury-default and 7-1 decision. His round 4 fall over Eau Gallie’s Jon-Marc Huey (4:53) was the effective championship match.

195 — In a four-person roundrobin, Mainland’s Doug Dittmer won the title, with two pins and a win by injury default. His fall in Round 1 over Eau Gallie’s Landon Peacock (2:48) was the effective title match. Suwannee’s Mahri Roberts was 0-3 and placed fourth.

220 — A five-person roundrobin saw Godby’s Robert Harrell go 4-0 on the day, with four pins. Harrell falled Bayside’s Zandy Lanier (:31) in round 5, the effective championship match. Suwannee’s Robert Robinson (1-3, pin) was fourth.

285 — The Cougars’ Joshua Yarbrough (9th-1A) was 5-0 in a six-person roundrobin, all wins by fall. Yarbrough’s round-3 fall over Eau Gallie’s Keshawn Dixon (3:31) was the effective championship match. Suwannee’s Cayden Williams (2-3, 2 pins) was fourth.
