The work continues. Because of course it does.

If you’ve been around a while, you’ve seen us do some things to talk about more of Florida wrestling besides the coverage area. We are therefore happy to start up — because we were worried we wouldn’t have time — our Records Updates for the remainder of 3A-Region 1 and 1A-Region 2.

We will alternate between 3A and 1A teams until we are done with 3A (which should be done first), then it will be just 1A going forward. With any luck, we’re done with these by October 1. Our fourth 3A-District 3 team is out today, with Lake Brantley; we’re now halfway done with the District 3/4 side of Region 1.

LAKE BRANTLEY

And I thought three months was bad. Six-ish is far too long.

Since our last post like this one, we ran through the post-season — at a full sprint, and as big as I am, that’s not easy to do — and pushed out 144 #TheSeason recaps between mid-March and mid-August. We’ve completed around a third of our records updates. We started an Instagram! (I still don’t fully get how it works). We had some personal challenges and we’re continuing to battle our worse selves on that front.

But we’re also going to begin Year 8 of this site in just a couple of weeks, and the biggest reason that there is a Year 8 is you.

Therefore my sincerest of thanks to the following folks who’ve donated since my last post (apologies if I’ve missed anyone recently):

I’ve wanted to add featurized content that highlights wrestlers as students and as engaged members of their schools in other ways besides on the wrestling mat. But that content takes time and planning and, yes, resources. Reach out to me; let’s talk.

We also are going to be rethinking, over the months of September and October, how to reach you all more effectively. I’m not sure if our daily and weekly recaps do that, in looking at other coverage models that are out there.

The work continues. Because of course it does.

If you’ve been around a while, you’ve seen us do some things to talk about more of Florida wrestling besides the coverage area. We are therefore happy to start up — because we were worried we wouldn’t have time — our Records Updates for the remainder of 3A-Region 1 and 1A-Region 2.

We will alternate between 3A and 1A teams until we are done with 3A (which should be done first), then it will be just 1A going forward. With any luck, we’re done with these by October 1. Our fourth 3A team is out of District 3, with Colonial.

COLONIAL

Win/loss record: 5-3 in dual meets searchable by Matmen. Please review the attached document for a summary of the Grenadiers’ performance in IBT events. All individual records are as searchable online. Wrestlers with 15 searched matches that did not compete in the post-season have asterisks by their records.

Tournament results (where results are complete): 6th at Bill Scott Memorial. T-34th at Lady Bear Classic. 13th at Metro Conference. 13th at Women’s Metro Conference. 3rd at Ocoee Mat Classic. T-64th at Girls’ State. 2nd at 3A-District 3 traditional tournament. 18th at 3A-Region 1 traditional tournament.

Projected key returners (15+ matches this past season) for 2020-21 (with year in school as they’ll be next year): Tyreque Pringle (junior, 30-8 at 106, district runnerup, 2-2 at regions); Brandon Vargas (senior, 26-20 at 120, district 4th, 0-2 at regions); Dominique Pringle (junior, 30-11 at 126, district champ, 1-2 at regions); Eli Suvak (sophomore, 8-28 at 138, 0-2 at districts); Christopher Sito (junior, 25-22 at 145, district 4th, 0-2 at regions); Janiel Rodruguez (senior, 5-10* at 145/152, did not compete in post-season traditionals); Jaden Santiago (senior, 2-15 at 152, 0-2 at districts); Raymond Arias (senior, 3-17 at 160, 1 match from regions); Seth Suvak (senior, 37-13 at 182, district champ, 1 match from states); Sean Henderson (senior, 24-12 at 195, district runnerup, 1-2 at regions); Nathaniel Gayle (junior, 21-21 at 220, district 4th, 0-2 at regions); Erick Paulino-Risk (senior, 3-6 at 285, district 3rd, 0-2 at regions).

Graduation losses (15+ matches this past season or post-season experience) from this year’s team: Alesandra Burgos (7-5 at 132/134, 3-2 at girls’ state, 0-2 at districts); Jalen Mathis (26-14 at 170, district 3rd, 1 match from states).
