JACKSONVILLE — In the first dual meet of the season matching up Gateway Conference teams, Englewood’s fuller lineup prevailed in a 48-24 home win over First Coast Thursday night, the season-opener for both teams.
The Rams had 12 weights covered to First Coast’s eight, building in a 24-0 cushion before the dual began. After building a 12-0 lead, First Coast tied up the dual on pins from Jace Austin (132, 1 minute) and Myles Nicco (138, 2:40).
The teams’ stars then traded falls, as Lynden North (2:50) won for Englewood at 145 and the Buccaneers’ Josiah Mossor (1:59) answered with a pin at 152.

But after building a 12-point lead once again via forfeits to the Rams at 160 and 170, Englewood extended that lead to an insurmountable 30-point cushion on pins from Darryl Sam (1:53, at 182), Sam Howard (1:31, 195) and Melvin Wiggins (1:39, at 220). First Coast 285 Cleon Johnson closed out the event with a fall in 5:32, in the only match to reach the third period.
Englewood will travel to another Gateway rival, Terry Parker, on Wednesday, while First Coast will have a home dual on December 11 against Bishop Snyder.
Rutherford 54, Bozeman 30: At Bozeman, the visitors took five pins, with an additional four wins by forfeit, in the season-opener for both teams.
Zander Stillgess (106), Elijah Stillgess (113), Ramero Black (138), Keaton Schirmer (160) and Lonnie Andrews (285) all took falls for the Rams.
Bozeman would answer with pins from Logan Jamison at 132 and Austin Comer (220).
Both teams swing back into action next week, with Bozeman going first, hosting Arnold on Wednesday. Rutherford will travel to North Bay Haven on Thursday.
Sandalwood at Paxon: We don’t have a report on this yet. The teams have until Monday at 6 to remedy that. As we receive results, this portion may be added to the story.
