JACKSONVILLE — The original plan for both Fletcher and Westside was to compete in tournaments during the first weekend of the season.
Instead, in these uncertain times, the Senators and Wolverines squared off in a rare Friday-night dual, with visiting Fletcher taking a 66-18 win in the season-opener for both teams.
Fletcher jumped out to an 18-0 lead on pins from Josh Daltro (138), Elisha Purdy (145) and Joel Rodriguez (152). The teams traded forfeits at 160 and 170, and the Senators would extend their lead to 36-6 after pins from Christopher Strong (182) and Ryan Klein (195).
Westside would cut the lead back to 18 after a forfeit at 220 and fall for Ray Bolden at 285, but the Senators would win the dual’s final five matches, with pins for Jimi Baur (106), Cole O’Brien (120) and Ryden Ashmore (126).
Results from the dual can be found HERE.
Fletcher will have another dual on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Robert E Lee, while Westside will host Gateway rivals Atlantic Coast and Ed White on Saturday.
