FOLKSTON, GA — Georgia’s season is a week ahead of Florida’s.
But that didn’t keep Fernandina Beach from competing well at the Black Water Duals, hosted by Charlton County HS on Saturday.
The Pirates were 3-2 on the day, with their only losses coming against a pair of Georgia state duals qualifiers in Pierce County (36-30) and tournament champion South Effingham (52-28).
Fernandina left the day in third place, with dual victories over McIntosh County Academy (63-6), host Charlton (53-30) and Glynn Academy (48-30).
Seven of the Pirates’ 12 starters had at least three wins on the day, with six winning at least four and two finishing the day at 5-0.
Scoresheets for all reported duals contested at Charlton can be found HERE.
Fernandina Beach will next wrestle at home on Saturday, as the Pirates will host the Dual in the Dunes one-day tournament.
ACE OF THE DAY
Senior Jeremy Mahoney (126) was one of two FBHS wrestlers to start the season with a 5-0 record, and was the only Pirate to “max-point” (earn 6 dual team points in each dual wrestled during the day) during the competition. Mahoney had falls in succession over Glynn Academy, Pierce County, McIntosh County Academy and South Effingham, with a forfeit against the hosts.
