#Byron: Paridon, Smith Take Gold Titles

KISSIMMEE, FL — South Dade. Camden. Lake Gibson. Southwest Miami. Osceola. Fleming Island.

Those six teams alone, from a getting-competition standpoint, are reason enough to compete in the Danny Byron Invitational at Osceola, which, this past weekend, had more area teams from north Florida than ever before.

The Golden Eagles and Buchholz have been fixtures in the two-day tournament, in which no team scores are kept. Teams are flighted into three separate traditional tournaments on Friday. Top performers from each of the three flights are then slotted into a gold roundrobin flight on Saturday, with a blue flight for the next-best and a white flight (not contested depending upon #s of participants) for who remains.

Joining the Golden Eagles and Bobcats this year were Flagler Palm Coast, St Augustine and University Christian, all first-time participants at least in terms of our knowledge going back to 2013-14.

Each of the three 3A local teams in the field — Fleming Island, Flagler Palm Coast and Buchholz — had four placers in the Saturday Gold flight. All three of University Christian’s wrestlers placed in Saturday Gold, while St Augustine had two placers in the Saturday Gold top-six.

Results for the entire tournament can be found HERE.

First back on the mats will be the 3A-District 2 teams, Flagler Palm Coast and Buchholz, along with St Augustine. The Bulldogs go on the road to Creekside Wednesday night, while Buchholz hosts Union Cty and St Augustine hosts Terry Parker. University Christian will be at Union Cty’s Scrap for the Strap on Friday and Saturday, while Fleming Island will host the St Johns River Conference tournament on Saturday.
