#Deltona: DeLand 2nd, Wolves 4th

DELTONA — After qualifying mid-week for the final round of 3A-District 2 duals next month, DeLand came through with another solid performance Saturday at the Deltona Duals.

The Bulldogs couldn’t defend their title — Sebastian River saw to that in round 4 of the one-day tournament — but otherwise were 3-1 on the day.

DeLand (4-2 for the season) took victories over third-place East River (46-36) and fifth-place Oviedo (51-22); after a break in round 3, the Bulldogs fell to Sebastian River, 42-36. They then closed out with a 45-36 victory over conference/area rival and tournament host Deltona, to claim second.

As for the Wolves, they were 1-3 and placed fourth in the tournament. After a round-1 bye, Deltona (1-3 for the season) fell to Sebastian River, 54-15. The Wolves bounced back with a 39-30 win over Oviedo in round 3 before falling to East River, 57-22, in round 4.

DeLand had seven wrestlers finish with at least three wins, with two going 4-0 and “max-pointing” (scoring 6 team dual points in all duals contested) on the day. Deltona had three wrestlers with three wins, two of them going 4-0.

Complete box scores for all six teams competing in the tournament can be found HERE.

Deltona will return to the mats first, traveling to Mainland on Wednesday night for a single dual. DeLand was committed to Hagerty’s Johnny Rouse Duals this upcoming weekend, but is now looking after that event was cancelled.

ACES OF THE DAY
DeLand: Junior Andrew Knowles (195) was one of the Bulldogs’ two max-pointers Saturday, with pins over East River and Sebastian River, plus forfeit wins over Oviedo and Deltona.
Deltona: Senior Ethan Chiu made his season debut Saturday, with an 11-8 win over a well-regarded Sebastian River 220 in the Wolves’ first dual, followed by pins in succession over Oviedo, East River and DeLand.
