VALDOSTA, GA — Defending a championship, in these uncertain times, is a powerful influencer for any wrestling team.
Clay made the short trip over the Florida state line into south Georgia to defend its Allstate Wildcat Invitational, won for the first time by the Blue Devils a year ago.
And 10 Blue Devil placers — including a pair of champions — made sure it was a successful defense, as Clay outdistanced a 14-team field made up mostly though not exclusively of south Georgia teams, outpointing Georgia 7A Colquitt, 212-180.5, for the team title.
The Blue Devils put five wrestlers into the final, with three runners-up, one 3rd, three 4ths and one 5th as well as the pair of champions.
Brackets for the tournament can be found HERE.
Clay is now off until December 28, when the Blue Devils will be part of a north Florida delegation that competes in the Knockout Christmas Classic at Osceola.

ACE OF THE DAY
Senior Cale Hoskinson (170) returned to the Blue Devil lineup after a two-week in-these-times absence, roaring through his bracket with four pins. Hoskinson had three first-period pins in 2:13 to reach the final, then came back in the title match to fall a 2020 Georgia 6A state qualifier in the second period to complete the perfect score on the weekend.
