#BillScott: Matanzas T-8th, DeLand 12th

LONGWOOD — A star-studded field dotted the top of the table at the 47th annual Bill Scott Memorial.

Multiple-time Georgia 7A state champ Camden held off one of this year’s favorites for the Florida 1A title, Somerset Academy, for the team title, as the titans battled to a near-standoff before the south Georgians emerged victorious, with 259.5 points to Somerset’s 249. Winter Springs, with 197 points, was third.

Local teams Matanzas and DeLand were in the middle of the pack in this 19-team field, with the Pirates finishing T-8th at 72 points, tying with Cocoa Beach. DeLand was 12th, with 35.5 points.

Matanzas had seven placers on the day (two 4ths and five 6ths). DeLand finished with two placers, both taking sixths.

First Baptist Christian also competed in the event. Check brackets HERE for Crusader and all results; due to missing duals, further information cannot be recapped here.

The Pirate boys will be back in action for a midweek dual at district rival Mainland on January 6th; some of Matanzas’ girls are likely to be wrestling next week at Osceola’s Southern Belle girls’ tournament on December 28-29. DeLand will next be at the 3A-District 2 duals tournament finals at Flagler Palm Coast on January 5.
