
JACKSONVILLE — Host Westside rolled to a pair of double-digit wins in closing out the 2020 calendar year on Saturday.
The Wolverines (3-1) topped Robert E Lee (48-27) and returning program Ribault (the Trojans had been dormant for around 15 years as a program), 63-6.
The Generals (1-4) picked up their first dual win of the season with a 59-6 win over the Trojans (0-3).
Double winners for Westside were Omajai Hickmon (106, pin over Lee), Jacare Johnson (126, pin over Lee), Emma Smith (132, pin over Lee), Olleon Hickmon (138, pin over Lee), Cory Ward (152/160), Caleb Baltazar (182, pin over Ribault) and Ray Bolden (285, pin over Lee). Tesla Kirkland (145) and Elijah Williams (220) both had pins for the Wolverines in the Ribault victory, while James Matthews added a 13-11 win in that same dual.
Double winners for the Generals were Ricky Hicks (113, 2 pins), Jamal Burkes (120), Ty’Juan Jones (145, 2 pins), Ahmahd Denmark (160, 19-3 tech over Ribault) and Jeremy Porter (220, 7-4 decision over Westside). Thomas Jones (285) added a fall in the Ribault dual.
Tre’Veon Rosier (195)’s fall was the Trojans’ lone contested victory on the day; the other, in the Lee dual, was won by forfeit.
Westside and Robert E Lee will both be at Stanton’s 2A-District 3 dual team tournament on January 4; Ribault, competing independently in 2020-21, has its next event at the Westside Roundrobin on Jan. 16.
Raines tri-meet: The host Vikings (3-1 in duals) also closed out the month with two dual wins, taking down Stanton (30-18) and Ed White (24-12).
In the opening round, the Blue Devils (1-2) picked up their first dual win with a 36-18 victory over the Commanders (0-3).
Double winners for Raines were De’Quon King (120, pin over Stanton), Raynarde Thomas (182, 2 pins), Jada Arnold (195, pin over Stanton) and Jamari Watson (220, 2 pins).
Stanton’s double winners included Elias Spurlin (106, pin over Ed White, injury-default over Raines), Matthew Mock (138), Grant Kelsey (160) and Carter Lemieux (170).
Ed White’s Jordan Jackson (220/285, 2 pins) was a double winner; DaVaughn Patterson (182) won by fall in the Stanton dual.
Stanton will be first up among the competing teams at Raines as far as next competitions go, hosting the 2A-District 3 duals tournament on January 4; Raines and Ed White have opportunity to compete in the 1A-District 3 event at Yulee on January 6.
