#NextLevel: Finally, Division I Returns

TEMPE, AZ — When last we checked in on Gabe Beyer (Leon ’16), he had been dominating the Florida heavyweight scene in high school, wrestled at Disney Duals for the CFWA/South Florida Lightning all-star team and was fixing to go to Arizona State.

That was the plan before Beyer’s Mormon mission trip.

It’s now January 2021, Division I wrestling is back after a 10-month hiatus that felt more like 10 years, and Beyer was wrestling on the Arizona State home mat, but instead was wrestling for the Sun Devils’ opponent, Arkansas-Little Rock, on Saturday.

Competing at 285 for the Trojans, Beyer had two matches, falling in the varsity match to #12 Cohlton Schultz, 2-0, as Arkansas-Little Rock fell to the 11th-ranked hosts, 39-3.

In an exhibition match, Beyer rallied back for a 4-1 decision over ASU’s Chad Porter.

Beyer and the Trojans next face Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Chattanooga this coming Sunday.
