FT WALTON BEACH — After spotting host Choctaw a double-digit lead, Tate roared back behind four max-point wins to close out a 42-36 victory over the Indians Wednesday night.
The Aggies (2-1 in duals for the season) scored pins early from Marcus Virgin (126), Caiden Stone (138) and Landon Hutto (152). But Choctaw (0-3) doubled Tate up on pins from Steven Banfield (132), Devonte Knox (145), Eli Devoid (160) and Peter Skehan (170), plus forfeit wins at 113 and 120.
Tate came back, though, behind a forfeit win at 182 and pins from Jacob Turner (195), Ashtyn Allen (220) and Gabriel McKinley (285) to close out the dual.
Tate will go on the road for another midweek dual next week against a district rival, facing Milton on the 13th. Choctaw is now off until January 16, when it goes to Wewahitchka’s Gator Brawl.
Matanzas 48, Mainland 21: At Mainland, the visiting Pirates extended their season record to 6-0 behind seven pins.
Matanzas never trailed in the dual (the closest at any point was 12-12), winning six of the last eight matches to claim the dual. Jack Stapleton (126), Logan Mayer (132), Tyson Mills (152), Jordan Mills (160), AJ Pieroni (220), Robert Elder (285) and Carter Wilder (106) each had falls for the Pirates, who also claimed a forfeit win at 182.
Mainland (2-3) got pins from Josh Rodgers (145) and Devin Dorton (170), plus Kaden Golder (120) took a 9-6 decision victory. The Buccaneers also had a forfeit win at 138.
Matanzas and Mainland will reconvene on Saturday, this time as the Pirates host the 2A-District 4 dual team tournament.
