CRAWFORDVILLE — Wakulla got some preparation in for this weekend’s shorter-than-previously-planned hop over to Panama City and The Bash with a home dual Thursday night.
On a night where the 1A-District 2 final round was planned to be staged and an upcoming weekend where the War Eagles were to be headed to Palm Bay for a tournament there, none of that took place.
Instead, Florida High came over for a regular-season dual, with Wakulla taking a 60-22 victory over their district rivals.
Raymond Hatchman (120), Jackson Merrick (132), Jae T Thaxton (145), Hayden Reeves (152), Cole Baggett (160), Jack Mispel (220) and Jayven Hearns (285) all won by fall for Wakulla (12-2 in duals for the season), which also got forfeit victories at 106, 113 and 182.
Florida High (4-6) answered with pins from Tyler Reeve (126), Emil Ganim (138) and Micah Perdue (195), plus a 13-3 major from John Campbell at 170.
A box score from Thursday night’s dual can be found HERE.
Due to county regulations under which the host team could operate, Wakulla could not attend Palm Bay’s Ships N Duels; instead, the War Eagles got a slot at Rutherford’s The Bash this weekend, which has duals on Friday and IBT wrestling on Saturday. Florida High has a similarly-formatted tournament, going to Fleming Island for the Keystone Memorial, with duals on Friday and IBT wrestling on Saturday.
1A-District 2: Wakulla was declared the winner of the district title when Suwannee forfeited to the War Eagles after advancing out of one of the two district preliminary competitions last month. Wakulla will host the 1A-Region 1 “western” quarterfinal and semifinal rounds on January 14. The War Eagles will face Rocky Bayou Christian in the quarters. According to Wakulla coach William Pafford, the winner of that dual will face South Walton in the semifinal round. The Seahawks will get a walkover into the region semifinal round.
