NEW SMYRNA BEACH — Host New Smyrna Beach took the final step toward gunning for a 2A-District 4 title Saturday with a 56-24 dual victory Friday night over 5 Star Conference rival DeLand.
The Barracudas (6-1 in duals for the season) won every weight class between 106 and 145, with 10 wins in all, eight of them contested.
Simjay Engberg (106), Aidan Sutton (113), Justis Chandler (138), Michael Shannon (145), Jackson Farmer (160) and Doug Dittmer (195) all won by fall for New Smyrna Beach, which had two forfeit victories at 126 and 285. Tristen Winfrey (10-1 at 120) and Jace Engberg (8-0 at 132) both added major decisions for the ‘Cudas.
DeLand (5-4) answered with pins from Dylan Lambert (152), Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (170), Isaiah Swint (182) and Preston Long (220).

As noted above, NSBHS will be at the 2A-District 4 tournament, which kicks off in about eight hours, at the time of this writing, at Matanzas (10 a.m. start). DeLand is off until Wednesday, when the Bulldogs host another 5 Star rival in University (Orange City).
