JACKSONVILLE — Fernandina Beach took down a pair of Jacksonville-based schools in a tri-meet at Raines HS Thursday.
The Pirates (16-4 in duals for the season) had one-sided victories over Episcopal (60-21) and Raines (66-16). In the final dual of the night, the Eagles (19-7) pushed past the Vikings (5-5), 42-36.
Double winners for the Pirates were Nik Saldana (106, injury-default over Episcopal/pin over Raines), Caden Kubatzke (120, pin over Episcopal), Jeremy Mahoney (126, pin over Episcopal), Brooks Rohe (152, pin over Raines), Lucas Crawford (160, pin over Episcopal), Kolby Kidd (220, 2 pins) and Jared Hutchinson (285, pin over Raines).
For Episcopal, Joe Jackson (132, pin over Fernandina Beach), Noah Meyer (138, pin over Fernandina Beach) and Chance Wolffe (145, pin over Fernandina Beach) each won twice.
The Vikings had De’Quon King (113/120, major over Fernandina Beach/pin over Episcopal), Raynarde Thomas (170, 2 pins) and Jamari Watson (195, pin over Fernandina Beach) at 2-0 for the night.
Raines went right back into tri-meet mode on Friday night (results and recap to follow). Fernandina Beach is off until February 5 when it is scheduled for Englewood’s tri-meet, while Episcopal’s next event is the 11th with an away dual at Bolles.
Creekside 65, Nease 15: At Ponte Vedra Beach, the visiting St Johns Knights (18-3) rolled up 11 weight-class wins.
Creekside got out to a 24-0 start before Nease won three of four between 138 and 160. The Knights then won six weights in a row to close the dual.
Conner Wright (113), Hunter England (120), David Ferreira (126), Cathan Simpson (132), Ryan Redfern (145), Robbie Balke (220) and Vincent Approbato (285) all won by fall for Creekside, with Hunter Brown (170) taking a 17-1 tech fall in the third period. The Knights got forfeit wins at 182, 195 and 106.
Nease (9-12) controlled most of the middle weights, with pins from Mateos Zajni (138) and Chad Severt (160), as Anthony Tanza gutted out a 2-1 win at 152.
Creekside was at Wolfson’s Wolfpack Challenge on Saturday (written in separate story), while Nease is off until the Diamondback Duals at Belleview on January 30.
Still waiting on: We have no report from the Rocky Bayou/Crestview dual at this writing. It’s not considered late until 6 p.m. tonight.
