TALLAHASSEE — In some senses, both Lincoln and Chiles could lay claim to winning Saturday’s Timberwolf Duals at Chiles.
Both teams were 5-0. Both teams compiled five double-digit wins. Both teams got some needed mat time in sufficient quantity to be able to go out of a topsy-turvy regular season high note.
Lincoln was a bit more dominant in its run of victories, as the Trojans compiled an average margin of victory of 64.6 points per dual. The dual victories for Lincoln (17-1 in duals on the season) were against Leon (75-6), Rocky Bayou (68-9), Ridgeview (its closest dual, 65-18), a mixed Chiles B/Godby (with one Wewahitchka wrestler) squad (72-0) and Rutherford (79-0).
Chiles also had a one-sided average margin of victory of 45.6 points per dual against its opponents on the day. The Timberwolves (15-3) took dual wins over Florida High (44-23), Rutherford (66-12), Niceville (44-23), Wewahitchka (73-0) and Rocky Bayou (68-9).
Niceville was third on the day, going 4-1. The Eagles (16-7) had a win in round 1 over Rutherford (54-30); after falling to Chiles in round 3, Niceville ran the table the rest of the day, with wins over Wewahitchka (57-15), Florida High (33-30) and Leon (57-18).
Three times finished tied at 3-2 — Rocky Bayou, Florida High and Ridgeview.
The Knights (5-4) had wins over Ridgeview (48-36), Chiles B/Godby (45-35) and Leon (36-32), while the Seminoles (7-15) took victories over Wewahitchka (48-24), Rutherford (48-29) and Chiles B/Godby (40-27). Ridgeview (18-16), for its part, had wins over Chiles B/Godby (36-30), Leon (42-18) and Wewahitchka (36-21).
Rutherford (10-14) took its lone win over its district rival, Wewahitchka (42-30), while the Chiles B/Godby team (Godby 1-9 in duals on the year) defeated Leon, 48-21. Both the Lions (3-12) and Gators (3-16) were 0-5.
Most of the field is now off until next week’s district tournaments starting as soon as February 15. Leon and Godby meet in a Wednesday dual, while Wewahitchka goes to Bozeman on Thursday and hosts Gator Brawl on Saturday, when Rocky Bayou and Rutherford will also congregate at the Gators’ den.
