JACKSONVILLE — Five pins, coming mostly from the lower end of the lineup, were enough to propel Episcopal to a 48-26 victory over Mandarin Tuesday night at Episcopal.
The Eagles (23-7) overcame early Mustang leads of 7-0 and 13-6 thanks to falls from Cohen Chesser (106), Turner Glenn (113), Baylor Maurer (126), a dual-clinching pin from Joe Jackson (132) and John Fernandez (152).
Mandarin (3-2) built its early leads behind a fall from Andres Rodriguez (285), a 14-6 major from Tony Carter (195) and a 6-5 win from Jaelen Simmons (182).
The Mustangs hung in the dual behind Ashton White’s pin at 145 and 6-minute wins from Jameel Smith (18-6 major at 138) and DaMon Teague (19-14 decision at 120), but Episcopal had in pocket a pair of forfeits at the end of the night (plus an earlier one at 220) that helped provide added cushion in the dual victory.
Episcopal has one more dual to complete Thursday night at Bolles, while Mandarin is currently off until the 3A-District 1 IBT at Oakleaf on the 20th.
