#GatorBrawl: Rams Push Through To Team Title

WEWAHITCHKA — It wasn’t the Gator Brawl of prior years, but it was contested, and at last, in the final weekend of the season.

The north’s final IBT or roundrobin event of the regular season saw Rutherford push past Rocky Bayou Christian for the team title, with 108.5 points to the Knights’ 95.

The Rams took weight class wins at 113, 126 and 220 to win the team title. Rocky Bayou won at 132 and 152.

Host Wewahitchka had one champion and placed third as a team, with 82.5 points. Bay, which won 138, 145 and 160/170, took fourth with 72.5.

North Bay Haven, which had wrestled back-to-back duals in the previous two days, was fifth with 66.5 points and had one champ at 182/195.

Bozeman was sixth (55 points) and had one champion at 285, while Arnold was seventh (30.5) and one champion at 106. Graceville (10 points) and South Walton (zero) rounded out the tournament field.

106: Soloria won Pool A with two pins over wrestlers from Bozeman and North Bay Haven, plus a tech over Wewahitchka, then took two wins in the championship pool over two additional Gator wrestlers.
113: In a six-person roundrobin, Stillgess won with max points five times, with four pins (Bay, Wewahitchka, Bozeman and an additional Wewa wrestler) and a forfeit win over North Bay Haven.
120: Johnson was 3-0 on the day with pins over Wewahitchka and Bozeman, plus a forfeit win over North Bay Haven, to take the title.
126: Dutton needed just 4:53 of mat time to pin his way through the tournament, taking Pool A with falls over Bay, North Bay Haven and Wewahitchka, and championship pins over Rocky Bayou and Wewahitchka.
132: Latham was 4-0 in a five-person roundrobin, bonus-pointing through the day, with pins over Bozeman, Rutherford and Bay, and a 14-4 major over Wewahitchka.
138: Wood was 5-0 with five pins in a full six-man roundrobin, with pins over two North Bay Haven, Rutherford, Rocky Bayou Christian and Bay, in succession.
145: Cherry was 4-0, with pins in rounds 3 and 4 over Graceville and Rocky Bayou, a round 2 tech fall (20-3 in 1:52) over Rutherford and a 6-3 decision for the title over North Bay Haven in round 5.
152: Wells had a 4-0 day as well, with pins in rounds 2/4/5 over wrestlers from Wewahitchka, South Walton and Rutherford, plus a 10-0 major in round 1 over North Bay Haven.
160/170: Pippin won three times Saturday, with pins over Rocky Bayou, North Bay Haven and Rutherford in rounds 2-3-4 to win the bracket.
182/195: Mercado stayed unbeaten for the season (27-0), winning Pool A with pins over a Buccaneer teammate and over Rutherford, then winning by medical forfeit over a second Rutherford wrestler before pinning Rocky Bayou in the championship pool.
220: After a brief absence, Stillgess returned to the lineup with five pins in 12:26, with falls over Bozeman, Graceville, North Bay Haven, Arnold and North Bay Haven, in succession.
285: Rocha was 5-0 with five pins in 7:07, winning Pool B with falls over Rutherford, North Bay Haven and Wewahitchka, plus championship-pool pins over Graceville and Rocky Bayou.
