#GirlsState: 17 Area Girls Reach Semifinals

KISSIMMEE — After the first day of competition Friday at the Florida Girls’ State Championship, 17 area girls wrestlers are in the semifinals for Saturday’s competition at Osceola HS.

Additionally, 28 more girls are in competition in the consi brackets

Here’s a recap on the Friday semifinalists, a list of area girls still alive in the consis, and a list of those whose tournament ended Friday:

100: Arnold’s Valarie Solorio was 3-0 on Friday, with falls over McKeel Academy’s Maranda Borglund (:24, rd of 32), Western’s Iliana Gracey (3:26, rd of 16) and Matanzas/Seabreeze’s Tiana Fries (2:49, quarters). Solorio will face Palm Harbor University’s Clare Booe in the semis.
Alive in consis: Gracie Bradshaw (Middleburg); Abby Couillard (Mainland); Mary Manis (Ponte Vedra Wrestling); Fries.
Tournament ended Friday: Lillian Bradshaw (Riot Performance); Cheyanne Morales (Ridgeview); Kyra Baumbach (Ponte Vedra Wrestling); Mariah Mills (Matanzas); Kameron Easter (Wewahitchka).

106: Fletcher’s Ana Bradshaw and Nease’s Brielle Bibla both are in the semis, but in opposite halves. After a bye in the round of 32, Bradshaw had pins over Armwood’s Jalina Bradshaw (3:31, rd of 16) and University (Orange City)’s Katie Roche (:35, quarters). She faces University (Orlando)’s Tiana Marcillo in the semis. Bibla also had a bye in the round of 32, with a pin over Osceola’s Stacy Pule (:14, rd of 16) and a 7-2 quarterfinal win over Hernando’s Kali Christie. Bibla will wrestle Hialeah (Mater Lakes)’s Jasmine Godinez in the semis.

Tournament ended Friday: Shanice West (Raines); Savanna Huckelberry (Clay); Ashley Shaw (Tallahassee Battle); Brittany Lipka (Matanzas); Sophia Mallon (Ponte Vedra Wrestling); Makayla Johnson (Baker Cty); Natalie Lugo (Pace).

112: No locals in semis.
Alive in consis: Helena Alcantar (Pace).
Tournament ended Friday: Cynthia Kowitski (Ponte Vedra Wrestling).

117: Matanzas’ Riley White took two pins after a bye in the round of 32, with falls over Dr Phillips’ Naika Belizaire (1:44, rd of 16) and Gateway’s Liannette Ortiz (4:18, quarters). White will wrestle Braddock’s Analy Picado in the semis.

Tournament ended Friday: Ava Shuck (Ponte Vedra Wrestling); Abrielle Molina (Matanzas); Alejandra Cordova (Bay); Anjelys Balkenbush (Creekside); Keeley Roberts (Wewahitchka).

128: Clay’s Madisyn Blackburn and Ponte Vedra’s Olivia Richie are both in the semis at this weight, but in opposite halves. After a bye in the round of 64, Blackburn had pins over McKeel’s Isabelle Gerzenshtein (1:47, rd of 32), Dr Phillips’ Renijah Howard (1:04, rd of 16) and Wewahitchka’s Kaylee Easter (2:57, quarters). Blackburn will wrestle Freedom’s Shelby Weber in the semis. Richie also had a round-of-64 bye, with pins over Bulldogs of Jacksonville/Bolles’ Gabriella Dattoli (2:41, rd of 32) and Clay’s Jaidyn Vinson (1:07, rd of 16), plus a 16-1 quarterfinal tech over Dr Phillips’ Julia Ferriera. Richie will wrestle Mater Lakes Academy’s Carolyna Bellon in the semis.

134: Ponte Vedra’s Josie Sagasser reached the semis behind three pins Friday, with falls over Middleton’s Bhavya Bansal (:37, rd of 32), Poinciana’s Karina Rodriguez (1:06, rd of 16) and Dr Phillips’ Elisha Robinson (4:22, quarters). Sagasser will wrestle Hagerty’s Jada Llamido in the semis.
Alive in consis: Isabella Tietje (Matanzas); Aubrianna Apple (Orange Park).
Tournament ended Friday: Jordan Skates (South Walton); Carley Nicholas (Orange Park); Maddie Torres (Matanzas).

140: Riot Performance/Bartram Trail’s Talia Megas reached the semis behind three pins on Friday, with falls over University (Orange City)’s Lillie Curtis (:43, rd of 32), Ponte Vedra Wrestling’s Caroline Hughes (1:46, rd of 16) and Apopka’s Nehemie Gregoire (2:43, quarters). Megas will wrestle Largo’s Teigan Slauson in the semis.

Tournament ended Friday: Elizabeth Sturgeon (Paxon); Hughes; Curtis; Avery Duffy (Mainland).

147: No locals in semis.

Tournament ended Friday: Laura Weber (Paxon); MaKayla Figueroa (Matanzas).

154: Orange Park’s Jasmine Hecht reached the semis, following a 32-second pin in the round of 16 over Zephyrhills’ Annaleese Thomas and a bye in the quarterfinals. Hecht will wrestle Land O’Lakes’ Caitlyn Davis in the semifinals. No other locals in the weight class.

162: No locals in semis.
Alive in consis: Nadia Aldana (Union Cty); Jah’Mya Hill (Mainland); Morgan Morrison (Matanzas); Mira Schmidt (Ponte Vedra).

172: No locals in semis.
Alive in consis: Trinity Evans (University-Orange City).

184: Three local wrestlers make up three-quarters of the semifinal group, and one will be in the finals on Saturday. Arnold’s Henlee Haynes reached the semis behind pins over Ponte Vedra Wrestling’s Emma Dix (:20, rd of 16) and East Lee County’s Jainell Vargas (1:38, quarters). Haynes will face Oakleaf’s Jazzmine Moore in the semis. Moore got there behind pins over Hudson’s Savanna Nichols (:53, rd of 16) and Dr Phillips’ Amber Etienne (2:34, quarters). Raines’ Jada Arnold also reached the semis; after a bye into the quarters, Arnold pinned Riot Performance’s Jayla Harrison in :28. Arnold will wrestle Freedom (Orlando)’s Sierra Chavez in the semis.
Alive in consis: Dix; Harrison; Trinya Tillman (Mainland); Nyasia Williams (Union Cty).

197: Lincoln’s Maggie Moss reached the semis behind a quarterfinal pin Friday over Seminole’s Valerie Vega in 3:37. Moss will wrestle Wekiva’s Ramiya’h Steele in the semifinals.

222: Orange Park’s Tayana Labady and Mainland’s Cheyenne Wigley are both in the semis, in opposite halves. Labady had a bye into the quarters, where she falled Riot Performance’s Cheyenne Cruce in 1:26. Labady will face Freedom’s Kiara Brin in the semis. Wigley also had a bye into the quarters, where she pinned Matanzas’ Nakeisha Marcellus in 1:38. Wigley will wrestle Dr Phillips’ Aaliyah Hyacinthe in the semis.
Alive in consis: Cruce; Marcellus; Cadence Lyons (Tallahassee Battle).

HWT: Orange Park’s Andrea Smith bumped up a weight for girls’ state, and she along with Mainland’s Aniya Dixon are both in the semis. Smith had a quarterfinal pin over Dr Phillips’ Zaria Joseph, and will wrestle Miami Norland’s Shanakay Chambers in the semis. Dixon had a bye into the semis, where she will face Lake Mary’s Farida Marciano. No locals in consis.
