#TheSeason2020-21: Graceville

Hey guys!

The work continues. We are bringing back, for its seventh year, #TheSeason. We didn’t do these first year, but have ever since. It’s something nobody else does. We compile all season records and write a wrapup for each team. To get them completed more quickly, we are summarizing these a bit more than in seasons past.

Round 2 continues with one of our independent teams that we discovered in play midway through the season, with Graceville HS. The Tigers had a partial schedule this year, with three IBTs.

You can see everything I have on the Tigers in 2020-21 here –>  GRACEVILLE

Season in a nutshell:

  • 18th at 2nd Annual George Mulligan Memorial, 1/22-23 (18 teams)
  • 12th at Arnold IBT, 2/6 (12 teams)
  • 8th at Gator Brawl, 2/13 (9 teams)

Projected key returners (10+ matches this past season) for 2021-22 (with year in school as of next season): Lamar Sowell (junior, 2-9 at 138/145); Cayden McQueen (sophomore, 1-11 at 220).

Projected losses (10+ matches this past season) via graduation unless otherwise noted: None.

Given the first-year program, we’re writing this up somewhat differently, as each of the three Tigers that competed in January are MVPs, each are captains, and each — in trying to help launch a new wrestling program at a school where there hasn’t been one at least in recent memory, if ever — have a bit of Zander’s fighting spirit in them. The two projected returners, along with 2021 graduate Colby Merritt (who had nine matches in two tournament appearances), may well be known down the road for having launched a new program in the future.
