#TheSeason2020-21: Baldwin

Hey guys!

The work continues. We are bringing back, for its seventh year, #TheSeason. We didn’t do these first year, but have ever since. It’s something nobody else does. We compile all season records and write a wrapup for each team. To get them completed more quickly, we are summarizing these a bit more than in seasons past.

Today, we’re starting up Round 6 with Baldwin.

BALDWIN

You can see everything I have on the Indians in 2020-21 here –>  BALDWIN

Win/loss record: 0-5 in dual meets reported to Matmen. There may have been a mid-January dual on the 13th, per Trackwrestling, but the records I have suggest otherwise.

Season in a nutshell:

  • 13th at Wolfpack Challenge, 1/23 (13 teams)
  • T-14th at Gateway Conference, 1/29-30 (15 teams)
  • 0-5 (6th) at Parker 6-Way Rumble, 2/12 (6 teams)
  • 8th at 1A-District 4, 2/17 (8 teams)
  • 30th at 1A-Region 1, 2/26-27 (30 teams)

Projected key returners (10+ matches or post-season experience this past season) for 2021-22 (with year in school as of next season): Caleb Hellard (8th, 0-7 at 120, 0-2 at districts); Taylor Davenport (8th, 3-9 at 160, district 5th); James Harrelson (freshman, 3-8 at 220, district 4th, did not compete at regions).

Projected losses (10+ matches or post-season experience this past season) via graduation unless otherwise noted: None.

2020-21 MVP: Taylor Davenport

  • Led team in contested victories
  • 1-2 at Wolfpack Challenge
  • 0-2 at Gateway Conference
  • 2-3 at Parker 6-Way Rumble
  • Went into third period in district blood round

2021-22 captain: James Harrelson

  • 0-2 at Wolfpack Challenge
  • 0-2 at Gateway Conference
  • 3-2 at Parker 6-Way Rumble
  • Qualified for region tournament

2020-21 Zander Laurin Warrior: Caleb Hellard

  • Two-year varsity starter, joined team competitively in final week of regular season
  • Had contested matches in all of his mat appearances
  • Could have stayed at a higher weight and perhaps an easier bracket, but nevertheless dropped down to one of the district’s strongest weight classes to compete in post-season series
