We’ve expanded the website, seems like, every year.
2014, Year 2 — we added Flagler and Alachua Counties, because teams in that area were — and hopefully still remain so — the most positive about what we’ve been doing. 2015, Year 3, we added a second website for teams teams west of Suwannee County, later folding the teams of that site — teams in the Tallahassee and Panhandle areas — into our original northeast site to create North Florida Matmen.
In 2019, we had our most ambitious expansion in four years thanks to FHSAA re-classification, adding teams in Volusia, Seminole and Marion Counties to create what, up to now, was our coverage area.
I always wanted to cover all of 3A-Region 1, through a substantial portion of that time, but one thing stopped me. Call it a notion of professional courtesy if you will, but I didn’t want to cut into the coverage area that a colleague and dear friend was responsible for, especially one who probably has helped me a lot more than I’ve ever helped him.
But, things change, and now that that colleague has equal responsibility for the entire state, I don’t mind challenging his old homestead for a little bit of expansion myself.
Starting this weekend, we will be covering all of 3A-Region 1 — including Districts 3 and 4 — with what I hope is as much depth and completeness as the rest of the north. So we will be covering the eastern Orlando suburbs and some city teams starting in 2021-22.
This is a trial basis. We’re going to see how it goes. I’ve got a nice base of support there, but I’d still like to get more coaches on board. Perhaps this announcement can help start that to happen. If it works, depending on how next year’s classification, I’ll evaluate my options toward expansion. If not, well, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
So 3A-3 and 3A-4 will be fully part of the #TurkeyNWrestling preview. Next month. Oyyyyy. Not sure I’m ready, but I’m going to have to be. Like Saturday Night Live, they go on at 11:30 not because all parts of the show are perfect, but because it’s 11:30. My preview goes out at 6 a.m. ET on Thanksgiving morning, because it’s Thanksgiving morning.
We’ll introduce a few wrinkles in how we do, particularly, our midweek coverage later on. Some surprises to which, hopefully, you can look forward.
100 teams. Ballpark.
I must be out of my mind.
