ST LOUIS, MO — Missouri Baptist kicked off its home season Wednesday night, winning seven of nine weight classes in a 35-10 dual victory over Fontbonne.
Two Matmen-area wrestlers made appearances in the dual lineup, with two more area competitors getting contested matches in exhibitions.
Freshman Ana Bradshaw (Fletcher ’21) and sophomore Jessica Corredor (Dr Phillips ’20) both started for the Spartans in the varsity lineup; both took forfeits to get Missouri Baptist out to a 10-0 start.
In the dual, that lead was erased by forfeits, but the Spartans would answer with a forfeit and a four-pack of pins at 143, 155, 170 and 191 to close out Fontbonne.
In exhibitions, freshman Riley White (Matanzas ’21, competing at 123) and junior Shania Gowan (Dr Phillips ’19) both won with pins.
On Saturday, the Spartans will travel to Wichita KS and Friends University for the Falcon Invitational.
Campbell 47, Montreat 6: At Buies Creek NC, the hosts rolled up nine bonus-point wins, including two pins, three techs and a pair of majors.
The visitors brought several wrestlers beyond the starting lineup of eight, giving an opportunity for several extra matches. One of those extras was at 165, where Patrick Adams (Ft Walton Beach ’20) got a seven-minute match against a Montreat starter, taking a 13-6 loss.
Campbell is next up on Saturday in a tri-meet at Oregon State, facing Lehigh (ranked 16th nationally) and the host Beavers (21st).
