OVIEDO — In the season opener Wednesday night for both teams, host Oviedo seized control in the middle of the lineup and up top, as the Lions turned back 3A-Region 1 rival University (Orange City), 48-33.
The Lions (1-0) picked up pins from Jesus Ramos (120), Johnathan Dishman (132), Lukas Crawley (145) as part of a 30-6 run, with Nick Rynearson (195) and Malachi Williams (285) taking falls in an 18-0 mini-run up top.
UOC (0-1) answered with solid points at the lower end of the weight classes and again from 160-182, as Anthony Rosamonda (106), Drake Alban (113), Reese Gordon (170) and Keenan Greenwood (182) all won by pin, with Cooper Braden taking a 12-7 decision at 160 in the only match going a full six minutes.
Oviedo will travel to Matanzas on Saturday for the Matanzas Duals, while the Titans will host Friday’s Lady Clash of Titans girls IBT and Saturday’s Clash of the Titans boys IBT events.
Lake Mary 40, Edgewater 24: At Lake Mary, having a fuller team helped the hosts — who took advantage of multiple Edgewater forfeits in the lower weights — get out to a solid start.
Each victory the Rams (1-0) earned was a bonus-point win, with pins from Brock Binford (160), Chris Treska (170) and Dominic Kontogiannis (220), plus a 17-6 major from Aden Eliason at 152.
Lake Mary will have a full weekend, as the Lady Rams will go to district rival University (Orange City)’s Clash of Lady Titans on Friday, and the varsity boys will compete in Master’s Academy’s Battle of the Blacktop on Friday and Saturday in Oviedo.
Girls’ scramble: At Timber Creek, the Lady Wildcats’ Bailey Waltz (130), Madison Waltz (135) and Chloe Shull (155) each won twice by fall.
Bailey Waltz pinned wrestlers from Lyman and East River, while Madison Waltz had over the same wrestlers, but a weight class up. At 155, Shull pinned wrestlers from Winter Park as well as East River.
Timber Creek’s Hayden Proulx (140) won her only match that was sent over to us, while Winter Park’s Gabreilla Giraldo (155) also had a pin on the evening.
