#NEDailyRdp: December 2

JACKSONVILLE — It’s rare, in the Jacksonville Westside, for both sides of a rivalry meetup to walk away with both feeling satisfied.

But in Thursday night’s dual between host Westside and visiting Ed White, where the hosts took a 42-28 win on their Senior Night dual event, both came away with good outcomes.

Westside (1-0) jumped out to an 18-0 lead on two forfeits and Jacare Johnson’s fall at 132 before Ed White (0-1) got on the board with Hayden Merritt’s 16-3 major at 138. The Wolverines then extended their lead to 30-4 on pins from Olleon Hickmon (145) and Nathan Williams (152).

But the Commanders would make things interesting, even if they would not overcome that lead, taking four max-point wins in the next five contested matches on pins from Bennyl Lewis (160), Malakhi Lewis (170) and Jahyem Brutus (285), plus an injury-default victory at 220 from Jordan Jackson. As it turned out, Ed White outpointed Westside, 28-24, in contested matches.

However, it was one of those four Wolverine pins — coming from a honored senior in Caleb Baltazar (195) — that secured the dual victory in favor of Westside.

Both teams are now off until the following weekend, with Westside going to Oakleaf’s Friday Knight Lights on December 10. Ed White will be at Bishop Snyder’s Westside Kiwanis on December 10-11.
