#Deltona: Hagerty Takes Down Field

DELTONA — Hagerty began tuning up for hosting duties at the coming weekend’s Johnny Rouse Duals by taking home the team title at the Deltona Duals on Saturday.

The Huskies went 5-0 on the day, with double-digit wins over Seabreeze (69-10), University (Orange City) (72-6), Deltona (57-18), East River (42-30) and Oviedo (67-12), good for an average margin of victory of 45.8 points per dual.

Hagerty sent 16 wrestlers out on the mat, with all 16 getting their hands raised at least once, and all but one winning two or matches.

Three Huskies were 5-0, and all three were max-pointers, scoring 6 points in each round that the team wrestled. Hunter Tate (195) pinned his way through the day, with five falls, while Kamdon Harrison (160/170, 3 pins) and Ethan Gomez (170/182, 3 pins) also were 5-0 on the day.

Three other Hagerty wrestlers were unbeaten on the day, in regular roles, as Clayton Childers (138, 2 pins & decision), Justin St John (152, 2 pins & decision) and Blake Watts (152/160, 3 pins) each were 3-0.

Carson Greenier (113, 4 poins), Stephen Dakoulas (120, 2 ions), David Mejia (132, pin, major & 2 decisions), Gavin Nelson (145, 2 pins) and Landon Revis (220/285, 3 pins) all were 4-1 on the day for Hagerty, while Connor Gilliam (170/182, 2 pins) contributed a 3-1 tournament.

Here’s a look at the other four teams in the coverage area who participated in the tournament:

Oviedo (6-4 for season, 3-2 in the event): The Lions took third behind wins over University (Orange City) (44-30, round 1), Seabreeze (54-27, round 3) and Deltona (36-35, round 4).

While no Oviedo starting wrestler made it through the day undefeated, three were 4-1. Josh Sabbia (113, 2 pins & 2 decisions), Clayton Mitchell (138, 4 pins) and Nick Rynearson (195, pin & 3 decisions) all got four wins on the day.

Connor Rodriguez (106), James Chiaradio (160, 3 pins), and Malachi Williams (285, pin) were each 3-1, while Lukas Crawley (145, pin), John Miceli (170, pin) and Joey Gioa (182, 2 pins) were all 3-2 for Oviedo.

The Lions will join their crosstown rivals at the Johnny Rouse Duals on Friday.

Deltona (2-4 for season, 2-3 in the event): The host Wolves took down Seabreeze (54-21) and University (Orange City), 39-36, in the final round of the day.

Four Deltona wrestlers were 5-0 on the day. Dianna Pineda (106, pin & major) bonus-pointed through the day, while Kyle Yasses (126, pin & 3 decisions), Kevin Kerns (132, 3 pins & 2 decisions) and Nathan Hatch (285, 2 pins & decision) all also picked up five wins. Austin Riis (113, 3 pins) chipped in a 3-2 day for the Wolves.

Deltona will host Mainland in a midweek dual on Wednesday.

Seabreeze (3-6 for season, 1-4 in the event): The Sandcrabs found their one win of the tournament in Round 4, taking down University (Orange City) by a 36-35 count.

Four Seabreeze wrestlers — Wyatt Sites (126, pin & major), Joseph Kent (132, 2 pins), David Kelley (138/145, 2 pins & decision) and Pedro Sierra (220, 3 pins) — were all 3-2 on the day.

The Sandcrabs (girls group) will be at the Skyler White Invitational, hosted by Space Coast, on Saturday.

University (Orange City) (0-6 for season, 0-5 in the event): The Titans did have three individual wrestlers that found their way to at least three wins during the course of the day.

Drake Alban (120, 3 pins) and Cooper Braden (160/170, 2 pins & tech) were both 4-1, while Slade High-Tompkins (195, 3 pins) put in a 3-2 day.

University (Orange City) next will be at Johnny Rouse Duals on Friday.
