#Rumble: Gulf Breeze Takes Inaugural Title

NICEVILLE — After two weeks of roundrobin/IBT work, Gulf Breeze tried its hand at duals last Saturday at the inaugural Rocky Rumble, hosted by Rocky Bayou Christian.

And even employing a mix-and-match approach that saw 18 different Dolphin wrestlers go out at least once — with all 18 getting their hands raised in victory at least once — Gulf Breeze ran the gauntlet to go 5-0 and take the title.

In Pool 2, the Dolphins took wins over Choctaw (50-30), Rocky Bayou (63-18), Rutherford (65-18) and Arnold (66-18). The championship dual, against repeating 1A-District 1 duals champion South Walton, was far closer, but Gulf Breeze survived a 41-40 victory that went to criteria to determine a winner.

Three Dolphin wrestlers were 5-0; two of those max-pointed through the day, scoring 6 team dual points in each dual the team contested. Blake Fluck (182, 3 pins) and Isaac Land (195, 4 pins) were Gulf Breeze’s max-pointers, while Michael Mancuso (126/132, 2 pins & major) bonus-pointed his way to a 5-0 day.

Brennden Nita (152, 3 pins) didn’t compete in the first pool dual, but otherwise had a perfect 4-0 day. At 4-1 for the Dolphins were Lily Powell (113, 2 pins), Coby Shields (120, pin/tech/major) and Micah Barker (170, 2 pins & decision).

As well, Charlie White (138/145, pin & major) and Nikolai Johnson (220, pin) were 3-2 for Gulf Breeze.
