ATLANTA — This week wasn’t the first time that Episcopal paid a visit to the two-day Prep Slam, hosted by Holy Innocents Episcopal Wednesday and Thursday.
Under the current coaching regime, though, it was the Eagles’ first major trip taken outside of Florida, and gave Episcopal a chance to scrap with some of the South’s and East’s top private programs in the two-day IBT, the 14th so held.
Episcopal finished with a mid-pack team finish, taking 16th out of 31 teams with 41 points, just one back of Berkeley Prep for second among Florida teams in the field (Lake Highland Prep, with 136 points, was 4th).
Just one Eagle took a place finish in the event, with Christian McGarity finishing sixth at 182. McGarity lost to the eventual 3rd by fall in the quarters, needing two wins (pin and 7-3 decision) in the consis to rally back for a podium spot.
Turner Glenn (106), Baylor Maurer (138), Maddox Davidson (220) and Mark Rinaman (285) each reached the blood round in their weight classes.
Baylor School (TN) won the event going away with 289 points, with St Anthony’s (NY) second at 191.5 and Lovett School of Georgia third with 148.5. Two other Florida teams, Cardinal Newman (T-27th) and St Petersburg Catholic (31st) joined Episcopal, LHP and Berkeley in the 31-team field.
