ST AUGUSTINE — Five of St Augustine’s six seniors honored for Senior Night Tuesday night won their matches as the Yellow Jackets took down Palatka, 49-21.
St Augustine 12th graders Teddy Wanamaker (pin at 182), Khaled Gardner (11-7 decision at 195), Nathan Bumbalough (fall at 220), Jakob Hartline (18-6 major at 145) and Clint Griffin (injury default at 170) all won their matches for the Yellow Jackets (season record not known).
The only senior that came up short was Wilson Nguyen in the dual’s premiere matchup, as the Panthers’ Mikade Harvey, a 2021 1A state placer for Palatka, took an 8-4 decision.
Additionally, the Yellow Jackets got contested wins from Jaquan Whitty (fall at 285), Logan Brenner (injury default at 120), Brayden Lovingood (fall at 152), with a forfeit at 160.
Palatka (season record unknown) got three forfeit victories in addition to the Harvey decision at 132.
The Yellow Jackets are now off until next weekend’s Flagler Rotary at Flagler Palm Coast, while Palatka will host Tocoi Creek in a dual on Thursday.
Oakleaf 74, Keystone Heights 6: The Clay County Knights also hosted a Senior Night dual, with all but one of their seniors converting their opportunity to start into a win, whether four-year starters or first-timer this year.
Marcus McGee (21-6 tech at 138), Gavin Bamber (fall at 145), Mason Ganion (fall at 170) and Joshua Sanders (fall at 285) were 12th-grade contested-match winners for the Knights (17-3). Seniors Gabriel Castro (182) and Onjel Caraballo (195) took forfeit wins as well.
Additional contested victories for Oakleaf came on pins from Keon Barrientos (126), Roman Polinsky (160) and Tyler Jackson (220).
Keystone Heights’ lone points came via fall from Sheppard Wingate (152).
Oakleaf will join St Augustine at Flagler Rotary weekend after this one, while Keystone Heights is off until February 4, when the Indians were scheduled to attend the Logan Kushner Scramble, hosted by River Ridge.
