#WarShore: Seahawks Trek East, Run Table At Fernandina

FERNANDINA BEACH — Even with two forfeits in its lineup, South Walton set the pace in the eight-team War on the Shore at Fernandina Beach on Saturday.

The Seahawks (20-4 in duals for the season) racked up five double-digit wins Saturday, with victories in pool over Mainland (45-23), Middleburg (51-30), Ridgeview (45-33), Fernandina Beach (48-20) and Baker County (45-31) in the effective championship match of the last round.

South Walton had 11 of its 12 wrestlers win at least three matches on the day (all 12 won two), with Isaac Brinson (132/138, 4 pins) and Dylan Billingsley (145/152, 4 pins) leading the way as 5-0 max-pointers, scoring 6 team dual points in every dual the Seahawks contested.

Brent Canut (106/113, 3 pins & decision), Max Brewster (120/126, 2 pins & decision), Gibson Moore (132/138, pin & decision), Chase Maas (152/160, 3 pins) and Nick Lee (285, 3 pins) all were 4-1 for South Walton.

Additionally, Ryan Kurfirst (138/145, 2 pins & decision), John Lopez (160/170, 3 pins) and Elijah Ramirez (195, 3 pins) put in 3-2 performances for the Seahawks.

Here’s a look at the rest of the tournament field:

Baker County (12-4 for season, 4-1 in event, 2nd): The Wildcats won their pool, taking duals against First Coast (54-24), host Fernandina (47-35) and Keystone Heights (72-9) with a championship-pool 48-33 win over Ridgeview before the loss to South Walton.

Toby Kinghorn (195, 4 pins) was Baker County’s lone 5-0 competitor; he was also a max-pointer for the Wildcats.

Brock Duncan (113, pin) and Rasean Rayam (152, 2 pins & decision) were both 4-0, with Jareb Lauramore (106, 2 pins), Clinton Sparkman (126, pin & decision) and Clayton Dennison (170, pin/major/decision) all turning in 4-1 days for the Wildcats.

Jonathon Walker (120, 2 pins), Joshua Carter (132, pin), Kai Bishop (182) and Ian Doyle (220, pin) each had 3-2 tournaments as well for Baker County.

Fernandina Beach (8-6 for season, 3-2 in event, 3rd): The host Pirates had wins in pool over Keystone Heights (59-24) and First Coast (51-29), claiming third with a 45-36 victory over Ridgeview.

Four Fernandina Beach wrestlers were 5-0, led by a pair of max-point performances from Enzo Gamba (160, 4 pins) and Lucas Crawford (182, 2 pins).

Caden Kubatzke (132, 2 pins & major) bonus-pointed through the day to go 5-0, while Dietrich Woods (138, 3 pins/major/decision) had five contested victories.

Cael Kubatzke (120, pin & 2 TFs) and Cole Misciagna (145, 3 pins & decision) both were 4-1 for Fernandina Beach, with Patrick Lee (126, pin) adding a 3-2 day for the Pirates.

Ridgeview (unknown season record, 2-3 in event, 4th): The Clay County Panthers had pool victories over Middleburg (42-34) and Mainland (45-36) in addition to the losses noted above.

Derrick Mosley (220/285, 3 pins) was a 5-0 max-pointer, Ridgeview’s lone such.

Joining Mosley at 5-0 was Logan Keester (170, 3 pins & 2 decisions), with contested wins in each round.

Mykel Gaddis (160, 2 pins & deciison) was 4-1 for the Panthers, while Jason Barrett (113), Raymond Goforth (182, 2 pins) and Trenton Manis (220/285, pin) all turning in 3-2 tournament efforts as well.

Middleburg (unknown season record, 3-2 in event, 5th): The Broncos had a pool dual win over Mainland (48-35), with consolation-pool wins over Keystone Heights (66-18) and First Coast (54-30).

Middleburg had four wrestlers go 5-0 on the day. Three of them were max-pointers, including Jackson Hornback (106/113, 3 pins), Adam McGarvey (106/113, 2 pins) and Austin Cruce (182/195, 2 pins).

Logan Moore (138) bonus-pointed through the day, with four pins and a major for the Broncos.

Grady Woodard (120, 2 pins) and Tucker Cody (220, 2 pins) were both 4-1, while Chaz Meldrum (160, pin) added a 3-2 day for Middleburg.

Mainland (unknown season record, 2-3 in event, 6th): The Buccaneers were 0-3 in pool, but rallied in the consolation rounds, with wins over First Coast (41-12) and Keystone Heights (42-34).

Kaden Golder (126, 2 techs & decision) was Mainland’s 5-0 lone wrestler on the day.

Putting together 4-1 tournament records were Brian Harris (132, pin) and Kalyb Evans (170/182, 2 pins & decision).

Isaiah White (145/152, poin), Sam Ayodele (145/152, 3 pins) and Josh Newman (195/220, 2 pins) each added 3-2 performances for the Buccaneers.

First Coast (4-9 for season, 1-4 in event, 7th): The Buccaneers had their lone team win in pool competition, turning back Keystone Heights, 42-30.

Jace Austin (145, 3 pins) and Jaquan Dennis (220, 3 pins) both were 4-1 for First Coast.

Additionally, Alphonso Parsons (170, 2 pins) and Derric Jacobs (285, 2 pins) were 3-2 for the Buccaneers.

Keystone Heights (4-6 for season, 0-5 in event, 8th): While there were no team wins on the Indians’ ledger at the end of the day, there were a couple of individual bright lights.

Cody Saley (285) was a 5-0 max-pointer for Keystone Heights, with three pins.

Jared Goetzman (113, pin & decision) was 4-1 and Alyx Nichols (160/170, 2 pins) 3-2 for the Indians.
