ORLANDO — Delegations from two area teams competed in Saturday’s Lady Falcons Invitational, a one-day girls’ roundrobin tournament hosted at East River.
No team scores were kept in the 16-team event. Timber Creek and West Port had representation on hand.
Below follows a breakdown of top-six placers from the area at each weight class, where applicable:
110: Timber Creek’s Sydney Beu was 1-3 with a forfeit in Round 2 over Poinciana, placing fourth in a five-person roundrobin pool.
120: The Lady Wolfpack’s Taylor Thomas was 2-1 for second, with pins over Jones in round 1 (:38) and Colonial in round 3 (1:44). Thomas’ lone loss in the effective championship match in round 2, where she fell, 7-5, to the hosts’ Isabella Tolentino. In that match, Thomas had the first takedown, but Tolentino set the pace thereafter, scoring in each period.
135: Timber Creek’s Madison Waltz ran the table in a six-person RR, going 5-0 with three pins over wrestlers from Poinciana, Tohopekaliga and Freedom, an injury-default win over Gateway, and a 6-4 win in sudden victory over Freedom’s Keyla DeLeon. Waltz trailed the entire first two periods, but a third-period takedown tied the match at 4-4, and she got a takedown 23 seconds into sudden victory for the win.
140: The Lady Wolfpack’s Hayden Proulx was second and Sarah Kron fourth in a six-person RR. Proulx was 3-1 with pins over Gateway and Wiregrass Ranch, plus a forfeit over Poinciana, losing only by fall (1:47) to Freedom’s Isabel Perez in round 3. Kron was 2-3 on the day, with both of her wins by forfeit, in taking fourth.
155: Timber Creek’s Chloe Shull won the title and West Port’s Jayden Dodge was fifth. Shull bonus-pointed through the day, with pins over Dodge (:26, rd 1) and Palm Harbor University, an injury-default win over East River and a 14-0 major over Gateway, with Shull’s fall in round 4 over Freedom’s Natalia Mulero (1:26) the effective championship match. Dodge was 1-3 with a win by forfeit for fifth, medical-forfeiting out of the last round.
