MIDWEEK DUALS

#NEDailyRdp: January 20

JACKSONVILLE — Yulee didn’t get a look at Bishop Kenny in a duals context during the FHSAA post-season run, as the Crusaders did not compete at districts earlier in the month.

Thursday night at BKHS, the visiting Hornets had to come from behind to secure a 42-36 win over the Crusaders, with five wins in the dual’s final six weights.

The teams engaged in some back-and-forth early momentum swings before the Crusaders (5-4) strung together back-to-back-to-back-to-back falls from 152 through 182 to build a 21-point lead, 36-15.

Logan Pugh (126), Dylan Johns (145), Alex Smith (182), Josh Harris (106) and Lewis Duhan (dual-winning pin at 113) all had falls for the Hornets, with Austin Adamson (8-4 at 138) and Christopher Aud (6-2 at 195) winning by decision. Yulee also got a forfeit win at 220.

Bishop Kenny secured falls from Noah Ossi (120), Christopher Hampton (132), Roberto Cuartero (152), Collin Hearn (160), Luke Ghannam (170) and Kevin Thallemer (285).

Yulee will be at Union County Tuesday night, while Bishop Kenny hosts Fernandina Beach Wednesday night.

DeLand 48, University (Orange City) 22*: At Orange City, in the annual Battle for the Chunk, the visiting Bulldogs (14-4 in duals at the time this was contested) won every contested match down low.

Victor Hopton (106), Kellen Chapman (126), Mathias Franz (138), Paul Derosby (170), Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (182), Andrew Knowles (195) and Marion Smokes (220) all won by fall for DeLand, which got forfeit wins at 145.

For the Titans (4-13), Cooper Braden (152) and Rubens Joseph (285) took pins, with Bryan Persinger pitching a 9-0 shutout for a major at 160. UOC also got a forfeit win at 113.

DeLand was at Celebration’s Storm Front Duals on Saturday (see our related story), while UOC was at Deltona earlier this evening (check back for our box score and report).

* — Trackwrestling was hard to follow with this dual. This is the closest accounting I can provide based on what appears online.
