HUDSON — There’s always been at least one or two trips over to the Gulf for Suwannee under John Wainwright.
And, after taking second at Weeki Wachee to kick off the season, the Gulf proved to be good hunting for the Bulldogs, as they dominated the scene at the Hudson Duals over the weekend.
Suwannee (43-9 in duals for the season) went 9-0 on the weekend, with five wins Friday and four more Saturday. The Bulldogs took down River Ridge (59-18), Osceola-Pinellas Park (70-6), Admiral Farragut (67-6), Lecanto (69-12) and host Hudson (48-25). On Saturday, the Bulldogs defeated Mitchell (61-6), Nature Coast (72-12), Braden River (48-31) and Land O’Lakes (55-15) to take the duals title.
All but one Suwannee full-time starter won at least six matches over the course of the weekend, led by max-pointer Brody Boehm (126, 7 pins), who was one of five Bulldog wrestlers to go unbeaten in full-time starting roles.
Three others were 9-0, with Topher Pearson (113, 5 pins, tech & decision), Austin McKinney (132, 4 pins & 3 decisions) and Ayden Kirby (138, 4 pins, tech & 2 decisions) also running the table. Additionally, Tyson Musgrove (152, 7 pins & major) was unbeaten, going 8-0.
