#GirlsDist6: Gonzalez; B. Waltz, Proulx, Shull Win Titles

ORLANDO — Timber Creek was second and Winter Park ninth in the 11-team FHSAA girls’ District 6 IBT Wednesday at Freedom.

And while the Patriots hosted, nobody was going to be chasing them down, as they rolled up 252 points, more than double the runnerup Lady Wolfpack’s 105. Winter Park, with one wrestler, scored 21.

Timber Creek advanced six of its wrestlers to next week’s Region 2 tournament, while Winter Park’s lone wrestler qualified out.

East River (78), Edgewater (64) and Colonial (46) rounded out the top five teams.

Below follows a summary of the two coverage area teams’ performances, for those wrestlers who qualified for the Region 2 tournament next week —

105: Winter Park’s Aliyah Gonzalez (5-3) won the tournament with two bonis-point wins, falling East River (2:40) and majoring Freedom’s Isabel Duarte, 11-1, in the championship match.

120: Timber Creek’s Taylor Thomas (12-8) reached the final behind pins over Boone (5:26) and East River (3:26), with a loss by fall in the championship match to Freedom’s Josette Kaminski (1:36).

130: The Lady Wolfpack’s Bailey Waltz (19-2) took the championship, but it was a close final with Freedom’s Rachel Ferreter, as Waltz’s second-period escape was the difference in a 1-0 decision. Earlier in the tournament, Waltz pinned Cypress Creek (1:44) in the semis.

135: Timber Creek’s Madison Waltz (28-3) reached the final with a 13-second pin over Oak Ridge, with a loss by forfeit in the final to Freedom’s Keyla DeLeon.

140: The Lady Wolfpack’s Hayden Proulx (12-5) won her team their second title of the tournament, with pins in the semis over Edgewater (1:47) and over Freedom’s Alissa Brown-Washington in 4:18 in the championship match.

145: In a three-person bracket, Timber Creek’s Sarah Kron (3-11) finished third after a fall in the semis to the eventual champion from Edgewater. Kron had a bye for third place.

155: The Lady Wolfpack’s Chloe Shull (25-0) gave her squad title #3, pinning her way through the day with falls in the semis over East River (:41) and over Freedom’s Natalia Mulero in 2:34 for the weight-class win.
