NEPTUNE BEACH — Paul Schloth was Fletcher’s assistant coach two years ago and head coach last year.

Now back in charge at Bishop Kenny, which he left to go to Fletcher after the 2018-19 season, Schloth made his first re-appearance on the island Wednesday night, and his group did not disappoint, taking down the host Senators, 49-23, on Fletcher’s Senior Night.

Things were back-and-forth in the dual early on, but the Crusaders (8-4 in duals for the season) broke things open up top with a 28-0 run between 170 and 285, with pins from Max Thallemer (182), Michael Bagan (195) and Kevin Thallemer (285), a 14-3 major from Luke Ghannam at 170 and a forfeit win at 220.

Allan Bustos (126), Paul Barakat (145) and Jacob Harless (113) each added pins, along with an 11-5 win from Jack Raynor (138), prior to and after the run for Bishop Kenny.

For Fletcher (24-11), the Senators gained pins from seniors Ryden Ashmore (120) and Christopher Strong (152), with majors from Cole O’Brien (11-1 at 132) and Landon Locantora (12-2 at 106), plus an 8-3 win from Josh Daltro (160) in the dual’s marquee match of the night.

Both teams’ regular seasons are now complete. Bishop Kenny will be up first in district IBT competition along with the rest of 1A-District 3 on Tuesday at University Christian, while Fletcher will be favored to defend its 2A-District 3 title on the 17th at Westside.

Middleburg 42, St Augustine 27: At Middleburg, the Broncos’ fuller lineup helped significantly, as the hosts won five matches by forfeit.

Logan Moore (145) and Tucker Cody (220) took the Broncos’ contested victories, both of them by fall. Middleburg (15-11) also won by forfeit at 126, 138, 182, 106 and 113.

St Augustine (unknown season record) picked up pins from Wilson Nguyen (132), Brayden Lovingood (160) and Jaquan Whitty (285), with Christian Jackson taking a 13-9 win at 152. The Yellow Jackets also had a forfeit victory at 170.

Both teams’ regular seasons are complete, and both are back in action on the 16th, with Middleburg going to 2A-District 2 IBT competition at Columbia and St Augustine visiting Matanzas for 2A-District 4 tournament action.

DeLand 63, Cypress Creek 18: The host Bulldogs (20-5) rolled up a solid win against their former region rivals on Senior Night, racking up 11 wins, nine by fall, during competition.

Falls from Victor Hopton (106), Grady Bryant (113), Kellen Chapman (126), Joshua Folsom (132), Mathias Franz (138), Lane Wishart (145), Noah Falk (160), Paul Derosby (170) and Gavin Rodriguez-Cayro (182) were recorded, with Phoenix Krauth (120) taking a 13-8 decision win. DeLand also had a win by forfeit at 220.

The Bulldogs’ regular season is now complete; DeLand will next compete in the 3A-District 2 IBT at Buchholz on the 18th.

Nease 67, Ponte Vedra 12: The host St Johns Panthers (18-8) broke open a 6-6 tie with six straight wins, rolling up a 31-0 lead and never looked back.

Jaiden Zajni (106), Jason Choi (113), Lucian Slayden (126), Gunnison Jones (152) and Bam Ghazanfari (160) all won by fall for Nease, who got a 10-2 major at 138 from Mateos Zajni and a 9-2 decision from Parker Stamschror (132). The Panthers also won by forfeit at 220, 120, 170, 182 and 195.

Ponte Vedra (4-19) got its points by fall, with pins from Nathanial Heun (285) and Bryson Hubbard (145).

Both of the St Johns County rivals’ regular seasons are complete. Nease is off until the 3A-Dstrict 1 IBT on the 16th, while Ponte Vedra will compete in 2A-District 3 IBT competition the next day.
